Perugia : Alfredo Cospito case – Update 14.3.23

This morning Alfredo was connected by teleconference during a hearing of the Perugia Court of Appeal, which was asked to review the request for the annulment of the injunctions ordered by the investigating magistrate, following a request by the local prosecutor against him and five other suspects for articles published in the anarchist newspaper Vetriolo.

According to the indictment, Alfredo and the other five are accused, among other things, of incitement to commit a crime, with the aim of terrorism and the subversion and overthrow of the democratic order. Until now, the suspects in this case have remained free.
Alfredo started speaking and read a long text, claiming the battle against the suppression of freedom imposed by the 41bis regime, but also of freedom of expression, both for himself and for his co-defendants. There was no mention of his health, but his seriousness was more than evident to those who saw him. He stressed in particular that he never wanted to be a ‘martyr’, and that this was part of his battle to assert his rights.

Facing the Preparation of the Trial Against Mónica and Francisco

On March 14, 2023 a series of hearings will begin in the so-called preparation for the oral trial against anarchist comrades Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar. This phase, which we expect to last a month, will decide which evidence will be brought to trial and which will not.

Both are accused of the explosive attack against the Tánica Building in the midst of the revolt (2020), while Francisco is accused of sending explosive packages to former Interior Minister Rodrigo Hinzpetter and the 54th police station (2019). The prosecution requests 30 years in prison for Monica and 129 for Francisco.

The comrades will be taken from San Miguel prison and Rancagua prison to the justice center for the first hearing, where they will face this judicial process virtually.

In this next step of the judicial process, it is still more necessary than ever to leave aside victimist narratives in order to open debates on the vindication and legitimacy of political violence on all levels, not only from the spectators’ box but in the form of concrete support and solidarity to those who face prosecution for such actions.

Four and one hundred and fifty

“Dear Teacher my son cannot register for the Balilla [fascist youth organisation] we are poor and we do not need hate”.

A man wrote this message to his son’s teacher in the 1930s, a message that could still be written today. We do not need hate. Not the hatred concealed in the language of the State, that which kills with the coldness of bureaucracy, which justifies even the greatest infamy. A language that we do not even pay any attention to anymore, so addicted are we to listening to it uninterruptedly without reflecting on its real meaning. The language that describes the man with a different skin colour to his own, if poor, as ‘residual load’, waste to be sent to the dump. A language that nothing will alter, not even the tiny bodies of dead children lined up side by side, because in the end even that accountancy is, for many, just a bureaucratic question. It is a question of numbers that will soon be filling up tomorrow’s statistics, not of poor unfortunates who drowned while they had hope in front of their eyes: four days at sea and the coast only 150 metres away. But the linguistic severity of bureaucracy does not give a damn about poor unfortunates. It doesn’t ask how long a night spent rigid with terror is. It doesn’t care if a journey can cost a life, because it travels by State flights.

Yet that language does not come asepticly from nowhere, it is the expression of a very specific way of thinking: that of Domination, which in turn is embodied in men and women with faces, not just in words that hurt.

Solidarity Means Attack

Atlas office in Connecticut attacked in so-called East Hartford,USA.

Early in the morning on February 20th, the Atlas office in so-called East Hartford, CT was attacked with a vengeance. Messages of ‘Stop Cop City’ and ‘Defend Weelaunee’ and ‘Avenge Tort’ along with demands for Atlas to drop their contract were spraypainted in black on the office building’s walls, doors, and windows. Security boxes on both sides of the building were rendered inoperable with super glue and the doors to the building were bikelocked.

The Atlas vehicle in the parking lot received the same treatment – vandalism and sabotage. Drop the contract or next time it will be worse. This action was to honor Tortuguita and is a commitment to never stop fighting, to never stop avenging them. It was quiet and easy; you could do it too. Atlas has offices everywhere so defenders must rise to the occasion everywhere. Death to Amerikkka.

About the recent searches ordered by prosecutors of Rome and Massa as part of the investigations concerning some initiatives in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito on March 3 and 9, 2023

We publish in English two updates on recent investigations by the prosecutors of Massa (searches and precautionary measures of March 9th) and Rome (searches of March 3rd).

Searches and precautionary measures for the demonstration in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito and all revolutionary prisoners on September 10, 2022, in Marina di Carrara

Yesterday, March 9th, searches were carried out against three comrades in Crotone, Lecce and Spoleto. The three were also given the precautionary measure of being obliged to present themselves daily at the police station for facts dating back to last September in Carrara where, during a demonstration in solidarity with Alfredo, a Lega electoral stand was encountered. There are seven suspects in total, five for robbery, two for defacement and all seven for election campaign interruption.

The following text is the political view of the Assembly in Solidarity with the four comrades in pre-trial detention Fotis D., Jason R., Lambros V. and Panagiotis V.

On November 14th, 2021 an unmarked police vehicle rammed into the comrades Fotis D. and Jason R. as they were in motion and then they were taken to the General Police Department of Attica. There, the uniformed garbage of the Greek Police proceeded to mandatory fingerprinting and DNA sampling, in order to link them to the attack on the Piraeus traffic police on the same night. In a process that took only half a day, they raided their homes, making sure to plant incriminating evidence, thus building a weak case against them. At the same time, the media indulged in their usual vile role, talking about homes being bomb and explosives manufacturing facilities, in an attempt to normalise the new criminal code in the public mind (which upgrades the possession and use of Molotov cocktails to a felony). It is worth noting, that the code came into force the day before their arrest. For the millionth time, the fabrication of guilty people by the media, has socially reinforced the prosecution’s argument and created the appropriate ground for the pre-trial detention of our two comrades, who have been held captive for 15 months in the Korydallos and Avlona hellholes.

With the trial date not being set and the case file still open, the interrogator had room to implicate more people. Following a prosecution conducted by the interrogator, on Tuesday morning 20/9, state cops accompanied by a prosecutor, stormed into the house of comrades Panagiotis V. and Lambros V. The comrades were arrested and detained in GADA, where for several hours the reasons for their detention were not known and they were not given the right to communicate with their lawyers or their close ones. The next day, they were tried by the Single-Member Plenary Court in Evelpidon for violation of the weapons law and were later released.

Last night, two electrical transformers in the commune of Saint-Martin-de-Londres were “deliberately damaged by fire”, according to a press release from the Hérault prefecture on Tuesday 7 March. The power was cut in 15 communes of the department.
The events occurred around 3:30 am on the site of the electricity cooperative of Saint-Martin-de-Londres, a small town located in the northeast of the department of Herault. “An intrusion by breaking and entering”, reveals the prefecture, which specifies: “Two transformers have been the object of deliberate damage by fire, generating a temporary power cut in nearly 15 communes, impacting about 8000 homes”.

Two relay antennas illuminate the confined night

While half of the world’s population was confined to their homes, an anarchist from Besançon was riding his bike to Mont Poupet in the Jura Mountains. It was at the top of these steep slopes that Boris lit up two large relay antennas with the flames of subversion on the night of April 10, 2020: those of four cell phone operators, but also of the police and the gendarmerie, causing nearly 100,000 euros worth of damage.

Identified by a trace of DNA found on site, the comrade was be incarcerated in the prison of Nancy and sentenced in April 2021 to four years in prison, two of which with no remission. In a public letter written from inside, he defended his act by his desire to oppose through direct action the increasing digitalization of our lives, with all the control, the environmental and social devastation that it implies. Unfortunately, while waiting for the date of the appeal, the comrade was seriously injured in August in a fire in the cell where he was, and the investigation on the origin and readiness of the screws to let him suffocate is still ongoing. Greece in turmoil and pain – 8 days of rage, protests and riots for the 57 dead of the train crash

Greece: a country in mourning, still in shock, following the death of 57 people in a train crash at Tempe, the deadliest in the country and one of the worst in Europe.

8 days later the dead passengers, mainly young students, are still being buried and people continue to protest against the crime executed by the neoliberal government and a private company, that chose to sacrifice passenger safety for profit, resulting in a passenger service train, carrying more than 350 people, ramming into a freight train, just before midnight on Tuesday 28 February 2023, after they ended up on the same track mainly due to the lack of technical equipment and the incompetence of the stationmaster, causing the front carriages to burst into flames. Ongoing revelations of staff shortages and substandard equipment have revealed the dangerous state of the privatized rail network. It was indeed an accident waiting to happen.

For 8 days now, almost all protests in Athens have been brutally attacked by the so-called “mourning” riot police, under the orders of Mitsotakis government that pretends to care, while they even close down all metro stations around a protest’s starting point to deter people from joining them. Such is the government’s sincerity and repentance for the blood of 57 people on their hands.

Just a few months before the parliamentary elections, the situation in Greece is unpredictable, with a criminal government employing cops to attack and crash mourning vigils, demonstrations and protests, in a place where there is no justice, nor peace.

[North of the city of Dresden (capital of the region of Saxony) is the Heidebogen (“Heibo”) forest, which has been occupied since August 2021 to prevent it from being razed for the adjoining KBO gravel plant.
On Wednesday, February 15, about 50 people who had built tree houses and erected barricades at Heibo began to be evicted from the forest in a large-scale police operation that ended the next day. Since then, the public company Sachsenforst (the German equivalent of the ONF for the region of Saxony, which also manages the “natural parks” of the region) has taken possession of the site with four harvesters and 70 forestry employees, beginning to level the hectares of state-owned forest promised to the gravel pit.
