A Good Wheelchair for Boris!

April 2020

Two relay antennas illuminate the confined night

While half of the world’s population was confined to their homes, an anarchist from Besançon was riding his bike to Mont Poupet in the Jura Mountains. It was at the top of these steep slopes that Boris lit up two large relay antennas with the flames of subversion on the night of April 10, 2020: those of four cell phone operators, but also of the police and the gendarmerie, causing nearly 100,000 euros worth of damage.

Identified by a trace of DNA found on site, the comrade was be incarcerated in the prison of Nancy and sentenced in April 2021 to four years in prison, two of which with no remission. In a public letter written from inside, he defended his act by his desire to oppose through direct action the increasing digitalization of our lives, with all the control, the environmental and social devastation that it implies. Unfortunately, while waiting for the date of the appeal, the comrade was seriously injured in August in a fire in the cell where he was, and the investigation on the origin and readiness of the screws to let him suffocate is still ongoing. It is thus with the medical power that Boris has been confronted for more than a year and a half. Continue reading Besançon (Doubs)France : News from Anarchist comrade Boris

Greece in turmoil and pain – 8 days of rage, protests and riots for the 57 dead of the train crash

Greece: a country in mourning, still in shock, following the death of 57 people in a train crash at Tempe, the deadliest in the country and one of the worst in Europe.

8 days later the dead passengers, mainly young students, are still being buried and people continue to protest against the crime executed by the neoliberal government and a private company, that chose to sacrifice passenger safety for profit, resulting in a passenger service train, carrying more than 350 people, ramming into a freight train, just before midnight on Tuesday 28 February 2023, after they ended up on the same track mainly due to the lack of technical equipment and the incompetence of the stationmaster, causing the front carriages to burst into flames. Ongoing revelations of staff shortages and substandard equipment have revealed the dangerous state of the privatized rail network. It was indeed an accident waiting to happen.

For 8 days now, almost all protests in Athens have been brutally attacked by the so-called “mourning” riot police, under the orders of Mitsotakis government that pretends to care, while they even close down all metro stations around a protest’s starting point to deter people from joining them. Such is the government’s sincerity and repentance for the blood of 57 people on their hands.

Just a few months before the parliamentary elections, the situation in Greece is unpredictable, with a criminal government employing cops to attack and crash mourning vigils, demonstrations and protests, in a place where there is no justice, nor peace.

* Most of the footage in this video has been shot on the 5th day of protests in Athens, on Sunday, 5 March 2023.

Leipzig (Germany): incendiary attack against the forest devourer

Leipzig: incendiary attack against the forest devourer

via: sansnom

[North of the city of Dresden (capital of the region of Saxony) is the Heidebogen (“Heibo”) forest, which has been occupied since August 2021 to prevent it from being razed for the adjoining KBO gravel plant.
On Wednesday, February 15, about 50 people who had built tree houses and erected barricades at Heibo began to be evicted from the forest in a large-scale police operation that ended the next day. Since then, the public company Sachsenforst (the German equivalent of the ONF for the region of Saxony, which also manages the “natural parks” of the region) has taken possession of the site with four harvesters and 70 forestry employees, beginning to level the hectares of state-owned forest promised to the gravel pit.
On Thursday, February 16 in Leipzig, four vans parked in the Sachsenforst parking lot were set ablaze during the night in retaliation, causing nearly 100,000 euros of damage and the opening of an investigation under the aegis of the PTAZ (the Police Center against Terrorism and Extremism). Here is a translation from the German communique, claimed three days later by “anarchists”].

Sachsenforst vehicles set on fire – Heibo stays!

On February 15, the cops commissioned by Sachsenforst started to clear the occupation of the Heibo forest near Dresden. This is the third time this year that an occupation has been evicted. This is the next place where people oppose the destruction. And as in Danni, Hambi or Lützerath*, it is the interests of capital that are to be imposed. The clearing of 900 hectares of forest and the associated destruction of irreplaceable wetlands and springs is unique in Germany. For years, various environmental associations have been warning of the extent of the phenomenon, and for just as long, those responsible have ignored them. The state-owned company Sachsenforst, which is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Ecology of the state of Saxony, is in the front line. A green policy, as usual.

Latest update 6.3.23 on Anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito (Italy)

6.03.23 Latest update on Alfredo Cospito

In unprecedented delirium the government in Italy is speaking of ‘brutal criminals’ who launch violence against ‘citizens’ (…) ‘with guerrilla warfare, seriously injuring law and order and security officers’ (…) after Saturday’s demonstration in Turin in support of Alfredo Cospito and against the monstrous 41bis regime and life sentence.

The Italian State of exception is calling for VIOLENT REPRESSION of all those supporting Cospito’s cause – for which it has been called upon by the UN to provide evidence that he is being held ‘with respect for his rights and dignity’, a fact which is negated by the very conditions of 41 bis

Alfredo Cospito – what will probably be his last letter (in full)
——-

Letter by Alfredo Cospito made public by his lawyer on 1st March 2023

My struggle against 41 bis is an individual struggle, I do not give or receive orders. It is simply that I cannot live in an inhuman regime such as 41 bis, where I cannot freely read what I want, books, newspapers, anarchist periodicals, magazines on art and science, as well as literature and history. The only chance I have of getting out of it is to renounce my anarchy and sell someone out to take my place.

A regime where I can’t have any human contact, where I can’t even see or touch a handful of grass or embrace a person I love. A regime where photos of your parents are snatched. Buried alive in a grave in a place of death. I will carry on my struggle to the extreme consequence, not for a ” request ” but because this is not life.
If the aim of the Italian State is to make me “dissociate” from the actions of anarchists outside I want you to know that as a good anarchist I don’t take orders. I believe that everyone is responsible for their own actions, and as part of the self-organising current I am not “associated” with anyone, therefore I cannot “dissociate” myself from anyone. Affinity is another matter. A coherent anarchist does not distance themself from other anarchists out of opportunism or convenience.

I have always claimed my actions with pride (also in court, that’s why I am here) and I have never criticised those of other comrades, much less when there is a situation like the one I find myself in.
The biggest insult for an anarchist is to be accused of giving or taking orders.

When I was in the High Security regime (AS) I also had censorship and I didn’t issue any “pizzini” [Spanish translator’s note: Slips of paper by means of which mafia bosses supposedly pass on their orders] but articles to anarchist newspapers and magazines. And above all I was free to receive books and magazines, write books, read what I wanted; I was even allowed to evolve, to live.

Today I am prepared to die to make the world understand what 41 bis really is; 750 people suffer it without protesting, continuously turned into monsters by the mass media. Now it is my turn, you turned me into a monster as the bloodthirsty terrorist, then sanctified me as the anarchist martyr who sacrifices himself for others, then turned me into a monster again, a terrible spectre. When it is all over, I shall no doubt be raised to the altar of martyrdom. No, thank you, I am not for this, I will not play your dirty political games.

In fact, the real problem of the Italian State is that all the human rights that are violated in this 41 bis regime in the name of a “security” for which everything is sacrificed, will come to light. Good! You should have thought twice before putting an anarchist in here. I don’t know what real motivations and political manoeuvres are behind it. And because someone has used me as a “poisoned apple” in this regime. It was quite difficult not to foresee what my reactions to this “non-life” would be. A State, the Italian one, worthy representative of the hypocrisy of a West that continually gives “morality” lessons to the rest of the world. The 41 bis has given lessons that have been well taken up by “democratic” States such as Turkey (the Kurdish comrades know something about this) and Poland.

I am convinced that my death will be an obstacle to this regime and that the 750 people who have been suffering under it for decades will be able to live a life worth living, whatever they have done.

I love life, I am a happy man, I wouldn’t trade my life for anyone else’s. And it is because I love it that I cannot accept this non-life without hope.
Thank you comrades for your love.
Always for Anarchy.
Never bowed down.
Alfredo Cospito

Athens, Greece: CLAIMING RESPONSIBILITY IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE HUNGER STRIKER ALFREDO COSPITO By Anarchists

Athens: CLAIMING RESPONSIBILITY IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE HUNGER STRIKER ALFREDO COSPITO

In 2014 the anarchist Alfredo Cospito was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison because at his trial for shooting the manager of a nuclear plant in the legs he did not make any statements of repentance, but instead defended his action, an action “against the doctrine of technology” according to his words. In 2016 and already in custody, he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, accused of a bomb attack on a carabinieri school in Fossano in 2006.Since 5 May 2022 he has been in solitary confinement (41bis) as part of changes to the Italian penitentiary code.

This regime imposes a reduction of the prisoners’ exercise period to one hour a day and visits with relatives to one hour a month, as well as restrictions on correspondence and reading material. In these ways it forces the prisoners into complete social isolation. Similarly, with the re-establishment of C-type prisons, the amendments to 187 and 187A, the increase of the minimum sentence to 4/5 from 3/5, the frequent DNA-based prosecutions and other amendments to the Sofronist code, it is clear that the treatment of the comrade Cospito is not so far from the standards of the Greek State. Besides, the cooperation between the two States is complemented by their economic support for each other. Of course, despite the apparent differences between them (with the image of the Greek State as more progressive and the Italian State as more conservative), it is obvious that the counter-revolutionary policy is the same regardless of the regime and government.

4.03.2023

There are demonstrations all over Italy. In Turin there is a big solidarity march, with the main slogan ‘The Struggle Does Not End’, just as there were demonstrations in Milan. Florence, in the central piazza D’Azeglio, anti-fascist march with a group of demonstrators singing Bella Ciao and chanting slogans for the release of Alfredo from 41bis. We are talking about thousands of people (estimated at 20,000), including students, with a shining example being high school principal Annalisa Savino, who sent the message ‘Fascism was born out of indifference’.

This morning the standard medical examination was carried out by a trusted doctor of the choice of lawyer F.Rossi Albertini, according to which Alfredo’s health condition is irreversible.

After the decision not to revoke the 41bis, Alfredo – as he had said – automatically stopped taking the potassium supplements that he had to take just before the decision, in order to have time to hear it. He has lost another kilo, he has very noticeable muscle atrophy and abdominal cramps. The situation he is in is extremely painful. He is heading for a slow and painfully agonizing death. We are awaiting the results of the biochemical tests on a sample taken this morning. The doctor has requested that the next tests be done in the hospital, not at the prison hospital where he was rushed back last week. This is a critical week.

Treasure Hunt for Coastal Gaslink (Canada)

Treasure Hunt for Coastal Gaslink

Over the past few months, several sections of the coastal gaslink pipeline have been vandalized. Financially, the consequences of each act were minor: a few holes in the pipeline here, some corroded welding seams there, damaged concrete here. Our goal was to contribute to the small delays in a project that was already well over budget.

  1. We drilled holes less than a penny wide in a section of pipe that had not yet been lowered into the trench. We covered the holes with fiberglass film, which temporarily prevents leaks in the pipes, but only lasts a few months. We know that welded sections of coated pipe are assessed before being lowered into the trench. After the trench is backfilled, they are tested under pressure. The holes were sealed in the hope that they would pass the first pressure test, but will have to be excavated and repaired before the pipeline is completed. This occurred during the last week of October on section 8 of the pipeline, between Kilometers 610 and 613.
  2. Between 585 and 588 kilometers of the pipeline, we found a section of pipe that had been dug out, so we damaged the coating at the joints by chipping and sanding it off in less visible places. This coating is needed to protect the pipe from corrosion and rust. We did this in early November. We liked this approach because the damage is not visible, but can still have a significant long-term structural impact if corrosion and rust show up, so it will need to be fixed.

Turin: Alongside Alfredo, alongside those who struggle. Demo in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, on hunger strike to the bitter end March 4th 2023

On Saturday 4 march we will take to the streets once more, alongside Alfredo, alongside those who fight. To repeat that we don’t want 41 bis, nor prisons, nor cpr.

That the only war in which we participate finds us at the side of all the exploited on the barricade that separates us from the exploiters, shouting our anger at a decision that marks the further increase of the repression of struggles, with the condemnation to death of a comrade.

Inevitably it must also mark our way of confronting them.

The fight never ends!

Anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito has been transferred back to Opera prison in Milan .(Italy)

Alfredo Cospito has been transferred back to Opera prison in Milan (27th February 2023)

We learn that today, 27th February, the anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito, on hunger strike for 131 days, has been transferred from the prison medicine ward in San Paolo hospital to the Intensive Care Unit (SAI) inside Opera prison in Milan, where he was being held before being transferred to San Paolo on February 11th.

With the hearing in the court of cassation on 24th February which upheld the detention order in 41 bis, the will to annihilate the comrade, already finalised in December with the outcome of the hearing in the supervisory court of Rome, has definitively been ratified by the State. This latest transfer from San Paolo to Opera is perfectly in line with this will of annihilation. They intend to destroy a comrade and with him believe they are giving a warning to the revolutionary struggle in this country. The intention, however, is futile: the need to fight against the State and capital is irrepressible, the desire to overthrow this authoritarian social reality is inextinguishable.

DEATH TO THE STATE, ALWAYS FOR ANARCHY

On February 24th 2023 the Italian judiciary issued its own decision on the lifting of the strict isolation 41 bis imposed on Alfredo Cospito.

The defence had called for a transfer from the solitary confinement regime imposed following Alfredo’s articles from the prison. The anarchist comrade decided to go on a hunger strike to the death to free himself from the brutal isolation regime known as 41 bis.

For over 120 days the comrade has put his body on the front line in the battle against the State, being supported by numerous internationalist actions around the world. By this time the comrade was in a state of severe physical deterioration, most likely irrecoverable, pending the outcome of the hearing.

(Untill the last breath – The case of Alfredo Cospito and Anna Beniamino)

Since 20 October 2022, Alfredo Cospito, an anarchist militant imprisoned for actions that have not resulted in any deaths, has been on hunger strike against the 41bis prison regime and the hostile life sentence to which he has been subjected for several months. His protest is not just a personal battle, but a political struggle against 41bis and life imprisonment. The 41 bis is a particularly afflictive regime, created to fight the mafia in 1992 and extended in the 2000s to terrorist organisations.

It includes, among other restrictions, isolation from other inmates, limitations to visits by family members, limited air time and constant surveillance by a special department of the prison police. So far, Alfredo has lost 40 kilos and is in critical condition. Last week, the Italian high court rejected an appeal by his lawyers. This latest decision is essentially a death sentence.

Solidarity Means Attack!
