When a few months ago we decided to make known the KYRIAKOS X vessel project, our comrade Mariana had written to us from prison: “…Perhaps this time Kyriakos will once again come up with an inventive and creative plan, and in his own unique way make the most difficult, the most impossible things seem achievable. As long as we are together.”

In these past months there were moments when we believed that this plan would not be realized. Even just a few days ago, we came to believe that KYRIAKOS X would not manage to sail toward Gaza.

On Friday, April 24, the verdict in the Ampelopiki case was handed down in Athens. Our anarchist comrade Marianna was sentenced to 19 years in prison, and our anarchist comrade Dimitra was sentenced to 8 years. Dimitris P, Nikos Romanos, and A.K. were acquitted.

With our thoughts with the prisoners in Athens, their comrades, and their loved ones, and with Kyriakos Ximitiris in our hearts, we visited the prisoners at the Holstenglacis remand center in Hamburg on the evening of the verdict.

As the conclusion of the first instance trial for the Ampelokipi case, the anarchist comrades Marianna Manoura and Dimitra Zarafeta were convicted of terrorist organisation within the framework of the 187a; specific manufacture of an explosive device; specific possession of explosives and weapons for supply to an organisation; possession and manufacture of explosives in large quantities; explosion with possible intent to damage. Their final sentences are 19 years for Marianna Manoura and 8 years for Dimitra Zarafeta.

As a first response, we call for a solidarity demonstration at the Korydallos women’s prison, on Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 PM.

The comrade Dimitra was convicted “for her stance in court, for not renouncing her ideas, and for developing her thoughts without weighing up whether this would work against her”.

For Marianna, the court did not accept the mitigating circumstances.

For Dimitra, the majority only accepted the paragraph concerning good conduct after the act was committed, that is, inside prison.

Marianna M. and Dimitra Z. were convicted of the following: criminal organization; aggravated manufacture of explosive devices; possession of explosive materials, explosive devices, pistols and ammunition; supply and possession of explosive materials; explosion using explosive materials; damage to another’s property.

Nikos Romanos: I am here after almost 18 months of arbitrary and vindictive detention. I also want to contribute to the restoration of the truth with my statement. In general, I believe that the only reason I am here is my past. And I will explain later why I say this.

First of all, let me repeat here, as I have said from the beginning, that I have nothing to do with this specific case. I have not committed any of the offences attributed to me and I believe that this entire story, this entire path that has led me here, is the result of revenge that has brought me to this objectively unfavourable position.
