Greece: Today, 14/6, /23 the Amfissa Judicial Council decided to release our Anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis with restrictive conditions.

Comrade Giannis, after a hard struggle where he put his body through a 33-day hunger strike and a 4-day thirst strike, managed to win what he was entitled to and had been demanding since last year: his temporary release on parole. Something he had been forced to demand before with a 67-day hunger strike last year, which he suspended after verbal promises from officials that his request would be granted, which never happened.

So today, 14/6/23 the Amfissa Judicial Council decided to release Giannis with restrictive conditions.

Comrade Giannis Michailidis is again putting his body as a barrage against the State revenge that he has been experiencing for almost a decade, choosing to fight for his freedom once again. Despite the fact that he has served the necessary conditions for his release and almost a year ago he spent 66? days on hunger strike without having his request met practically, the comrade is still declared a preventive detainee. On the legal-judicial pretext that he is not “sufficiently corrected”. With the main demand being for his immediate release, the comrade started a new hunger strike on 12/5 in the midst of a rather difficult situation.

As an anarchist solidarity movement outside and against the prisons of democracy, we have a responsibility and duty through militant and practical solidarity to fight back against the regime of exception and stand in solidarity with the prisoners’ struggles. We are part of this militant effort and the ongoing struggle against prisons. We support the comrade’s hunger strike attempting to break the total isolation and silencing of the struggles of all prisoners. We believe that the hunger strike of the anarchist comrade Giannis Michailidis, as well as many of the prisoners’ hunger strikes, can trigger militant campaigns of a multifaceted movement against prisons and imprisonment, which promotes and disseminates the revolutionary perspective of total liberation.

12/6/23 Refusal of hospitalisation of comrade hunger and thirst striker Giannis Michailidis from 2 hospitals because he does not accept medical interventions

For the last 48 hours a dirty game has been played on the back of the comrade Giannis Michailidis. While his weight loss and vital signs (blood pressure, blood sugar, oxygen) are very bad, leading Korydallos prison itself to signal the transfer of the comrade to an external hospital, in at least two cases he has been denied hospitalisation because he does not accept any medical interventions that involve an interruption of his hunger strike, and thirst strike for three days now.

Hot news in Toulouse in the Raisin district along the Canal between Les Minimes and Faubourg-Bonnefoy. Around 3 a.m. on Friday June 2, some fifteen firefighters responded to a crane fire on avenue François Collignon. The site was the third metro line.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but the structure of the crane was threatened by the fire. The second crane had hydraulic leaks on its cylinders. Both of which jeopardized the balance of both machines. The police and experts have arrived and the area has been neutralized: vehicles can no longer circulate on avenue François Collignon and chemin du Raisin. A security perimeter has been set up with barriers.

Moving around the Villa Devoto prison, I left an incendiary device, which after minutes ignited and fulfilled the objective I wanted, under a vehicle used to transport prisoners.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at dawn, after 3 o’clock, in Pedro Lozano corner Bermúdez, Villa Devoto, Buenos Aires.

Already on 12 /6 there were posters glued in Kreuzberg that spread the info about the hungerstrike of the anarchist prisoner. In Görlitzer Park there has been a bannerdrop and graffiti.

Two other prisoners, Thanos Chatziagelou and Stergios Kalaitzidis have joined in the hungerstrike recently. Meanwhile, the condition of Giannis Michailidis is getting critical as he has started after a month of hungerstrike additionally a thirststrike. It is urgent to react to the rapid escalation of this struggle behind the prison walls of the greek hellholes.

Greetings comrades. Let me tell you about this prison, the federal supermax ADX [in Florence, Colorado]. In this joint there are different levels and units with varying levels of physical isolation and communication, but there are things we all experience. Everyone is locked down at least 21 hours a day, at max 24. When you have inside rec you are by yourself in a room without a pull up bar. Outside rec cages are 8 x 10 foot dog kennels surrounded by concrete walls and a chain link roof — a cage within a cage. Unless you are in the pre-release unit (K-A) or long-term elder unit (K-B), you will never be in the same room as another person. And even in those units you only come around your ‘group’ — which is one to four other people — for inside rec. The other 22 ½ hours are in your cell by yourself. I have been in C-unit, the discipline unit and K-A; there is one other person in my group.

The cells are sparse. Concrete walls and double doors make any communication between convicts very difficult. Cells feature a low concrete beed, an oddly shitty mattress, a concrete desk, concrete stool, and in some units, a shelf above the desk. You never have solo interactions with staff — you are always double-manned with one of them carrying a steel baton, and you’re always cuffed behind your back. Depending on the unit, you can get 4–10 calls per month. I’ve made two ‘live-monitored’ calls in the past 10 months, but I’m being told that by participating in psychology programs I’ll earn a few calls per month. Time will tell. We’re allowed five visits per month, all non-contact in a concrete booth over the phone. All visits have to be scheduled in advance, which can be difficult with such restricted communication. I’m the only Anarchist here, but I’m definitely not the only political prisoner. Within this prison there is a group of prisoners the US government has attempted to bury. The general abolitionist community has consented to this, and it’s devastating.

“Lamb liberated in solidarity with Marius Mason and all long term anarchist prisoners.

We’d seen the lambs many times, we knew, while they were with their mums now, it wouldn’t be that long before they fattened up and the farmer sent them to slaughter. The field was easy to access but watchful mums keeping their babies close were hard to catch. Herding them into a corner and closing in we managed to grab one. Picking them up and taking them to safety we hoped their mum would understand that we’d look after them. We wish we could of taken her other lamb and her, the whole herd. They all deserve better than what awaits them. This lamb will get real care and never see the slaughterhouse or be left to die and decay in some field corner.

2023 Statement from Marius Mason

Dear Community, Family and Friends,

Thank you for the work you are doing to make the change we need to make into the world for our collective survival. Your dedication, support and love are a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me; and I am betting for other prisoners, as well.

This has been as eventful year and a half here at FCI Danbury. My transfer to a male facility had been viewed with great trepidation both by those supportive of trans people and by those who are adamantly opposed to our existence. I’ve had many memorable experiences; some humiliating, some merely annoying and awkward. But, also several that have been rewarding and deeply affirming.

There has definitely been a sense of working things out as we go—the way strip searches have been conducted has been all over the board. Sometimes they have been done by one male staff person, sometimes by one female staff person and several times by several male staff people. Strip searches occur before and after visits, before and after medical trips out, and also when going into the SHU (I had to go there before a medical procedure to fast).

Hunger strike of the imprisoned member of Anarchist Action Thanos Chatzianggelou alongside his comrade Giannis Michailidis.

Our struggles are like journeys. They carry all their contents along the road and not at the destination. And the value of a journey is in sharing it. It is the wild beauty of togetherness.

There is no more room for words – only actions. Today we each have to give a little something, so that some of us don’t have to give everything. And whatever the end, we will be by each other’s side to face it together.

From today, Sunday 11/6, I am starting a hunger strike alongside comrade Giannis Michailidis, demanding the immediate satisfaction of his rights.
