Text of Thersitis (Anarchist, a place of intrigue & subversion in Athens) on solidarity in the occupation and reoccupation of the a/a space that is shared in the neighborhoods of Ilio and Ag. Anargyron

Recently another series of repressive operations against occupied spaces of the anarchist-anti-authoritarian movement  (a/a) has been underway. On 8/25, the self-managed squat Ano Kato Patision and the Zizania social centre are evicted, with the latter being reoccupied on 10/14 by comrades from Zizania and a number of supporters. On 4/9 the hangout of the anarchist queer collective Kaliarda at the Faculty of Law is evicted, which is immediately retaken by the comrades@. On 8/31, the first attempt to evict the Self-Managed Polytechnic squat is made, to be followed by three more, with extensive clashes between comrades and police forces, with dozens of arrests. The last unsuccessful attempt to evict takes place on 9/30, while on the same day the occupation of Evangelismos in Heraklion, Crete, is evicted, with ten arrested and one comrade seriously injured.

This story has been going on for years

Repressive attacks against of the anarchist-anti-authoritarian spaces   go back a long way. It seems, however, that since 2010 their suppression has been a primary concern of political administrators of all stripes. After the 2008 uprising, squatter projects and self-organized spaces are increasing, while in the social struggles of the period 10′-12′, the large strike mobilizations and neighbourhood assemblies, they are foci of resistance, planning together with a crowd of people a different model of social organization, with horizontal processes, without divisions and exclusions, with collective kitchens, self-education courses, events-discussions, etc., as well as a multitude of actions and interventions aggressive towards the policies of depreciation and exploitation.

Athens : Attack on Ε.Μ.Π rector’s building ( The administration of ΕΜΠ offices of polytechnic university) as a minimal sign of solidarity with the squatters

On Thursday 12/10/2023 we carried out an attack on the Ε.Μ.Π. rector’s building, breaking the facade and a large part of the interior, as a minimal sign of solidarity with the squatters.

The State, unable as ever to manage the successive crises it faces, is intensifying its repressive moves, targeting self-managed spaces and the world struggling both inside and outside them.

In the midst of a generalized wave of evictions of squatters throughout the country (Ano-Kato squat in Patisia, Zizania in Victoria, Evangelismos occupation in Heraklion, Crete, Self-managed polytechnic squat) we cannot remain idle and watch the State’s attempt to eliminate the  centres of the struggle in apathy.

 Update from the march in Solidarity with the occupation of Evaggelismos on Sunday 8 October in the city of Heraklion in Crete

One week after the eviction of the Evangelismos squat after 21 years, we decided to call a march in the city centre on the day of the municipal elections. The march came as a continuation of a week full of actions following the eviction of the squat, and was one of the most crowded in the history of the movement in Heraklion, with more than 2,000 people attending. The people and groups in the city that issued calls formed a common block with a banner “EVANGELISMOS HAS NOT SURRENDERED”

Hundreds of texts were handed out, Flyers were thrown, and very loud slogans were heard throughout.

The cops tried to disperse the crowd by firing tear gas from both sides, but the bulk of the march remained in solidarity with the crowd and did not retreat until they could no longer breathe from the chemicals. Some people – including families with young children – who tried to escape, were briefly trapped in an alleyway by cops.

“Patience, strength, belief in the Cause. We’re right, in the end.”

14/10/2023 : Today we resquatted Zizania

For the past two years the building on Fylis & Feron has been a squatted social centre where collectives and individuals from the neighborhood and around struggled for a more collective and more free life.

We resquatted the building to continue the fight against gentrification and for free public space. We resquatted as we see the constant rise of rents, the conversion of the city to a field of consumption and of our houses into Airbnbs, the violent confinement of our migrant-neighbors in detention centers and camps, and the rise the rise of a cop culture that reaffirms all the above.

About the recently attacks over the last 2 months by the Greek police State on the anarchist antiauthoritarian squats “self-managed hangouts” and social spaces.

At dawn on Friday 25 August, 2023 cop forces of all kinds surround and evacuate the squats “self-managed hangout Ano Kato Patision” (since 1996)

and “occupied social centre Zizania”.

In the morning of 30th September, the uniformed bastards of the National Police, with the consent and cooperation of the rectors of the NTUA Bountouvis and the University of Crete Kontakis, evict two occupied premises. Violating sanctuary, they evict the Self-managed Polytechnic space for the third time within a month. At the same time, the occupation of Evangelismos in Heraklion, a building owned by the University of Crete, is also evicted, an eviction that included the savage beating of 11 comrades by the Crete TAE cops forces of Crete island.

Taking responsibility for a vicious inflammatory attack on Eurobank in Athens by Anarchists

Every day power reveals its true face to us, oppressing and plundering our lives. So, in response, in the early hours of Sunday 24/9/2023 we carried out a simultaneous, disruptive and incendiary attack on a Eurobank branch on Evelpidon Street.

Technological sophistication and the militarization of urban tissues have formed a grid of generalized surveillance and monitoring of our movements. Security systems, continuous patrols, constant forces of ELAS officers, (Greek police)targeting and incessant surveillance are the methods through which power is unleashed.

Another method, which intensifies the regime of technological autocracy, is also the new identity cards which include fingerprints and precise biometric data, thus constituting another arrow in the system’s quiver.

Back off snitches, forward comrades, by anarchists

We are in a period where in the last few months alone there have been State and capitalist murders, along with the plundering of nature to serve various interests and additional restrictions and surveillance. Issues which certainly cannot leave us indifferent.

The Tempi accident, the forest fires, the murder of hundreds of migrants at the borders (see the shipwreck off Pylos), the labour “accidents” are some of the events that have taken place. Others have been “announced”, carried out and are being launched even more intensely, such as evictions, iron cladding of parks and squares (such as Park Drakopoulou, following on from Exarcheia, various squares concerning the metro, etc.), privatisations, curfews for the city’s few parks, and of course the eviction of self-managed spaces and the intensifying attack on the people of the struggle. These are the conditions we have to face.
Within this context, there have been two “rounds” of elections in which the New Democracy party won and is still in government. Thus, the state has continuity and “commitments” that continue. Repression, cops, bans, individual responsibility are the tools of the state to manage any “crisis”.

We decided once again to make a symbolic gesture and throw a wind mast in the Laka batheti deep position next to the Motsara peak of the helicon. We note that this installation is added to a series of about 50 wind turbines (some of them can be seen in the video).
