An important update regarding anarchist Alfredo Cospito: the re-examination hearing for the 41 bis measure will be held on December 1 (Italy)
Update on the situation of Alfredo Cospito, who has been on hunger strike since October 20 against the 41 bis and life sentence without possibility of parole.
Alfredo has lost 16 kilos to date and is in good health overall. He is not yet taking any food supplements. We also inform that the re-examination of the 41 bis measure against him has been set for December 1st. The hearing is very important as it will have to rule on the legitimacy of the decision of the previous minister of justice Marta Cartabia to apply the 41 bis prison regime against our comrade.
Note of “La Nemesi”: The hearing will almost certainly be held at the surveillance court in Rome, which has sole jurisdiction over the decision to ratify or terminate detention under the 41 bis regime.

Faced with the anarchist debate about voting and elections, our response was, is, and will be direct action against all authority. It is urgent to move from paper to action.

At dawn on Election Day we set fire to more than 300 electoral flags and pamphlets that ignited the tires of a barricade on the overpass of Avenida Silva Só, an area close to the city center. With this action we cut the flow of normality of the citizens resigned to voting as a way of life.

On the banner, and on the flyers that accompanied the fire, was written: “Against all politicians, Against all authority, Long live anarchy!”

SPIE & MIELE Vans Set on Fire in Leipzig

During the night from 31.10. to 01.11. we set fire to SPIE and MIELE vans in the south of Leipzig. SPIE has been known as a prison profiteer for years. The company is involved in both the construction and operation of prisons worldwide.

For us, MIELE is representative of German imperialism in Greece. The appliance manufacturer has previously been the target of attacks by the Revolutionary Organization November 17 there.

Our hearts burn for all the rebels in the dungeons of the state who continue their struggle. They burn for Alfredo and Juan who are on hunger strike in Italy. They burn for Giannis Michailidis, who was on hunger strike from May to July this year and unfortunately had to suspend it without “success”.

Incendiary attack against a mobile telecommunications antenna in solidarity with anarchist Alfredo Cospito on hunger strike (Trambileno, Italy, November 5, 2022)

We learn from the media, in particular the local Trentino media, that on the night of November 5 a mobile telecommunications antenna located in the municipality of Trambileno, in the province of Trento, was set on fire. On the structure was left the writing ‘Alongside Alfredo on hunger strike. No 41 bis’, in reference to the hunger strike indefinitely undertaken, starting on October 20, by anarchist Alfredo Cospito against the 41 bis prison regime to which he was transferred on May 5 and against life imprisonment without possibility of parole. Subsequently, two other imprisoned comrades, Juan Sorroche and Ivan Alocco – respectively starting on the 25th in the Terni prison and on the 27th in the Villepinte prison, in France – also began a hunger strike in solidarity with the comrade.

Anarchist Black Cross Belarus recently finished an infotour in Germany, France and Switzerland, partly organized by the Federation of German-speaking Anarchists (FdA-IFA). We were able to talk to a comrade after their presentation in Berlin on 6 October 2022. The first half is about the dire political situation in Belarus at the moment, two years after the uprising as well as in the context of the war in Ukraine. In the second half we summarized together lessons from the presentation for antiauthoritarian and anarchist movements in future uprisings.

[Update: According to specialized sites of the industry, this coordinated sabotage struck not only several international cables in Marseille (the Amsterdam-Paris-Lyon-Marseille line, the line coming from Barcelona and the one going to Milan), but also another one in Aix-en-Provence, affecting the delivery of internet via the submarine cables which leave the port of Marseille to serve Asia.

If the national press has for the moment released sparse information so as not to sound the alarm and avoid giving bad ideas, several impacted Internet operators have nevertheless had to publish “incident tickets” following these sabotages. Cogent (North American manager of huge fiber optic networks carrying 17% of the world’s Internet traffic) said for example that one of the attacks occurred “on a private site of the water company of Marseille, which is also a major hub for fiber cables for various operators”, and the French data center manager OVH said in particular that “the cut has impacted the link between Marseille and Singapore” by “saturating all the Internet traffic coming from the United States and Europe” to this state…]

1ST, I DEMAND: THE DOWNGRADING FROM 41BIS OF THE ANARCHIST ALFREDO COSPITO.

– Last May 5th, Alfredo Cospito was placed under the 41bis regime and later transferred to Bancali Prison (Sassari). This was done to
physically prevent him from communicating and contributing to the debate among anarchists, after having already been imprisoned for 10 years in AS2 and subjected several times to correspondence censorship, investigations and trials concerning his writings. The state wants to silence and annihilate him with the 41bis regime, a prison within a prison, prison of annihilation, it is a scientifically studied torture technique, period: a technique based on deprivation to induce prisoners to deny their beliefs. The 41bis was not only designed for those accused
of association with the mafia, but this imprisonment regime was also and still is used for the purpose of repression of revolutionaries and subversives. For 17 years there have been some communist revolutionaries subjected to this regime.

2ND, -FOR AN ACTIVE SOLIDARITY:

– since I do not perceive myself as isolated, I want to give continuity of solidarity and internationalist struggle because what is happening to us isn’t stand-alone cases of state revenge against us specifically as social prisoners.

Atlanta: burning the movie studio to defend the forest

In Atlanta, Georgia, the city council voted on September 8, 2021 to allocate 34 acres of the South River Forest to a $90 million police militarization training center project, known to locals as “Cop City.” The facility includes a reconstructed city for cops to train in, as well as a helicopter landing pad, new firing ranges and more. Its development is led by the Atlanta Police Foundation and two-thirds of the funding comes from “philanthropic” and corporate donors, sending the rest of the bill back to the public.

Since April 2021, a struggle has been underway to oppose this “Cop City” project, with regular attacks and sabotage and an occupation of the wooded area to the east, which has reverted to its former name of Weelaunee Forest. And since the Hollywood film studio on the edge of the forest, Shadowbox Studios (formerly Blackhall Studios), also planned to expand by destroying another 80 hectares on the same side as the “Cop City” project, it became another target from the start. This summer, on July 31, when workers intervened accompanied by cops to try to clear the land needed for its expansion, they were, for example, pelted with stones, a backhoe was smashed and a company pickup truck set on fire, after other identical attacks (see brief chronology below).

A colorful message at the Belarusian Embassy in Prague

On Friday, October 21, 2022, a colorful message was placed on the Belarusian Embassy in Prague: first, the wall was marked with red paint and then on this background was written “FREEDOM FOR IHAR A.”

The red color symbolizes the blood of people who are massacred by the Belarusian police at demonstrations and in KGB cells. Moreover, with the current war aggression in Ukraine, the Belarusian state is a very close partner of the Russian state. Thus, the Lukashenko regime is also complicit in the bloodbath of people outside Belarus.

Tracing the thread of radical and revolutionary critique back to the recent past, but also looking at the generalized uprisings and revolts of the last few years here and internationally, could enable us to take a step in this direction. Not with the intention of finding ready-made answers and especially not “solutions”, but to modestly start asking questions, without waiting for the next insurrection.

The hunger strike as a tool of struggle is the last resort that the prisoner has to combat the suffocating life of prison. It is an extreme measure in which the body is used as the final trench of combat. Urgency determines the decision to carry out a struggle with these characteristics. An urgency that, undoubtedly, the situation of comrade Alfredo Cóspito, whom Power tries to silence under an insane isolation, presents today.

They perceived his actions as hard blows which, if replicated and multiplied, would put the imposed order in jeopardy.

They saw in his writings and proposals important contributions to seditious ideas and practices that constitute a danger to any expression of authority.

And they are not wrong.

For these reasons they have decided to apply the 41 bis to Alfredo. In the face of this attack we have no choice but to respond with strength, with decision, being clear that this is a struggle for Alfredo and for all of us who take a stand against power. Understanding the importance of fighting this battle, seeing it as an opportunity to strengthen ties and complicities in an internationalism of action.
