Claim Statement #8

We claim responsibility for the sabotage of the railroad line that occurred north of Leverkusen. Incendiary devices were placed in a large cable shaft located at the northeast corner of the bridge spanning the Wupper River, as well as in a narrower shaft halfway between the underpass beneath the bridge and the cell tower. We used timers, which we had previously described in the pamphlet “move fast and break things”, as well as one liter of liquid fire starter per device. We regret that the fire spread slightly beyond the tracks [more precisely, into the adjacent brush], and we thank the firefighters for bringing it under control. In the future, we will wait for more favorable weather conditions.

The political interpretation of our actions has led to a few journalistic errors. We had already distanced ourselves, in a previous text, from the dominant ideologies of our time. The fact that even the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution [Verfassungsschutz, domestic intelligence service] merely skimmed the text should give us pause for thought. Once again, in brief:

For the left, human beings are fundamentally equal in terms of abilities and value. It follows that everyone should have roughly equivalent power and economic status. The right places greater emphasis on differences between individuals. It demands that positions of power within the social hierarchy be held by the most competent people. This debate is significant and must take place in every society. However, the extent to which this cultural conflict has taken hold in people’s minds now prevents us from focusing on what really matters. Because, of course, for the sake of convenience, it is always the opposing side that is held responsible.

We are in the midst of a mass extinction. If nothing is done to halt it, humanity will succumb to it sooner or later. The cause of mass extinction is technological escalation. It is called “progress” by those who profit from it. The cause of technological escalation is competition.

Since competition among living beings can certainly be reduced but not eliminated, it is necessary to do away with industrial technology. In an emergency, this can be carried out by a small minority through sabotage. Governments and corporations cannot do away with industrial technology because of the laws of competition, as doing so would undermine the very foundations of their own power.

It is impossible to rebuild all industrial production processes once they have been completely destroyed.

Plants, animals, and many human beings will immediately be better off. For those living in cities, the transition will be difficult at first — uncomfortable and dangerous — but we will get through it. Over time, we will come to appreciate its benefits.

Our movement goes by many names: we are anti-industrialists. We are the anti-technology movement. We are biocentric. We are deep green. We are the new machine breakers.

This movement will prevent the planet from being torn to pieces. We do not ask for permission to do so.
