Athens, Greece: ABOUT THE INJURED 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL
About the injured 16 year old girl

On Saturday 28/10 an anti-fascist concert was organized in Heraklion Square, regarding the callouts against the fascist celebration of the 10th anniversary of November 1st (execution of two members of the golden down neo-nazis X.A.). During the concert, a group of antifascists patrolled the streets of Neo Heraklion area. At a very close distance from the concert venue the group crossed with cars of the O.P.K.E. The cops, without the slightest reason and although it was clear that the group had no intention of a confrontation with them, made a surprise attack, splitting the group of antifascists into two parts.

During the attempt to regroup, cops and people in plain clothes attacked the comrades again, throwing objects, stones, etc. at them, even a helmet. In the aftermath of the scuffle, there was intense and prolonged firing of tear gas, and after the O.P.C.E. were chased away by the concert security, the 16-year-old comrade’s absence was noticed.

During the night, we were informed that the comrade was being treated, with a strong presence of the O.Π.Κ.E. and State security in the wider hospital area. At the same time, despite the police’s continued denial that this was an arrest, they proceeded to illegally confiscate her cell phone, in effect stealing it. A few hours ago her arrest was announced, without the charges being made known even to her lawyer. By order of the prosecutor she has since been released and now the O.Π.Κ.Ε. teams have left. According to the doctors the comrade’s present state of health is, first of all, that she is not in a comatose state and is not brain dead, as had been leaked. She is hospitalized in a neurosurgical M.A.F. ward (Intensive Care Unit), she has a craniocerebral injury as well as a fracture on the left along the occipital bone and an epidural cerebral haematoma which remains stationary. It is important to stress that the possibility of surgery has not been excluded 100%. The coroner, wanting to create a second case of ” «ζαρντινιέρας»”, refers to an injury caused by a fall, underestimating the seriousness of the situation, the intelligence and our memory of all similar incidents of police and State violence.

The paradox of the case is that, despite claims that the cops found her unconscious they have made an arrest, two completely contradictory scenarios. This case is of major importance and must be brought to light as such. Such events have been occurring with increasing frequency in recent years and are slowly tending to become routine. It is clear that the State (police and coroner) and the media are attempting to cover up yet another case of police brutality. The response must be immediate and massive on the street with multifaceted actions. Impunity will not continue. We consider it crucial to bring out the reflexes of the anarchist and the broader antagonist movement, so that such events do not become a daily occurrence. This issue is not limited to the anarchist space but concerns society at large. It is obvious that the attack of the cops on the antifascists was a State order directly linked to the November 1 ban on the demonstration and therefore the responsibility for the serious injury of our comrade lies solely with the State and the police.

The response must be immediate, dynamic and continuous. Who will protect us from the protectors?
