Letter from Ivan from his cell. He has been incarcerated for a few days on remand at the Villepinte prison. Here is his first letter…

My name is Ivan, I am an anarchist.
I was arrested by the SDAT¹ on Saturday, June 11, around 3:30 am, not far from my home, while I was returning home.
I am charged with six vehicle fires that took place in Paris and Montreuil between January and June, often claimed in solidarity with anarchist prisoners (in the last one, an embassy car was set on fire the night I was arrested, in the 17th district).

For months, the cops set up surveillance tails, wiretaps, installed a camera in the entrance of my building, intercepted my mail (including letters from imprisoned comrades) and watched my bank account.

Another person (we only know each other by sight, but I hold him in high esteem) has been followed, listened to, etc., but not implicated. Also, but not implicated. Courage, my old friend!

The SDAT investigation began in February 2022 on the orders of the prosecutor Laure-Anne Boulanger, from the Bobigny prosecutor’s office.

They also pulled another investigation out of the drawers, closed, which had been conducted by other cops, on about fifty vehicle arsons, claimed by anarchists, in Paris and its surroundings, between June 2017 and 2021. The SDAT “joined” the two investigations, but the investigating judge (Stéphanie Lahaye of the Bobigny court) retained only the last six actions. For the others, I am a “counseling witness”.

In addition to “destruction by dangerous means”, there are also charges of endangering the lives of others, refusal of the identification (photos, DNA, fingerprints, they did not take them from me by force, despite threats), refusal to give the encryption passwords of my computers and the passwords of my phones.

At the moment, I am in pre-trial detention at the Villepinte prison. I’m in good shape, I’m doing well even if I miss my close ones a lot.
It’s normal, it’s prison, and you have to take it into account when you are an enemy of this society.

The return from the yard is the hardest moment here. It’s when the door closes until the next day. But I turn towards the window and look out. Out there, somewhere, comrades are still fighting. Nothing is over.

As soon as I get more information about this case, I’ll write more (I don’t have much else to do!).

My thoughts are with the anarchists in prison, all over the world: with Damien (in Draguignan), with Alfredo, with Anna, with Juan, with Toby, with Giannis Michailidis on hunger strike… and with all of you, out there!

Mi chiamo Ivan, sono anarchico.

Sono stato arrestato dalla Sous-diréction anti-térrorisme [SDAT] della polizia francese, sabato 11 giugno, verso le 3,30, vicino a casa mia (periferia di Parigi), mentre tornavo a casa.

Sono accusato di sei incendi di veicoli, a Parigi e Montreuil, fra gennaio e giugno, spesso in solidarietà con dei prigionieri/e anarchici/he (l’ultima, un’auto di un’ambasciata, è stata incendiata nel 17° arrondissement di Parigi la notte del mio arresto).

Gli sbirri mi hanno seguìto per mesi, ascoltato le mie telefonate, hanno installato una telecamera nell’entrata del palazzo dove vivo, intercettato la mia posta (soprattutto le lettere di anarchici/he imprigionati/e) e guardato il mio conto in banca.

Un’altra persona (ci conosciamo solo di vista, ma a lui tutta la mia stima) è stata seguita, ascoltata, ecc., ma non è stata messa in causa. Coraggio amico!

L’indagine della SDAT è cominciata a fine febbraio 2022 su ordine della procuratrice Louise-Anne Belanger, della procura di Bobigny. Hanno pure tirato fuori dai loro cassetti un’altra indagine archiviata, che era stata fatta da altri sbirri, su una cinquantina d’attacchi incendiari contro dei veicoli, tutti a Parigi e dintorni, fra 2017 e 2021. La SDAT ha “riunito” le due indagini, ma la giudice (Stéphanie Labarge [?], del tribunale di Bobigny) ha mantenuto solo gli ultimi sei attacchi. Per gli altri, sono “testimone assistito” [l’equivalente di “persona informata sui fatti”].

In più della “distruzione con mezzo pericoloso”, c’è anche l’accusa di aver messo in pericolo la vita di altri, il rifiuto di dare il mio DNA, di farmi fotografare, di dare le impronte digitali, il rifiuto di dare le password di computers e telefoni.

In questo momento, sono in detenzione preventiva alla prigione di Villepinte. Sono in forma, sto bene, anche se i miei cari mi mancano molto.

Normale, è la prigione, e bisogna metterla in conto quando si è nemici di questa società.

Qui, il momento più duro è quando torniamo dal passeggio. La porta si chiude e restiamo qui fino all’indomani. Ma mi giro verso la finestra e guardo fuori. So che là, da qualche parte, altri/e compagni/e continuano la lotta.

Appena avrò maggiori informazioni su questa storia, scriverò ancora (non ho molto altro da fare!).

I miei pensieri vanno agli/alle anarchici/he in prigione ovunque nel mondo: a Damien (in prigione a Draguignan), a Alfredo, a Anna, a Juan, a Toby, a Giannis Michailidis in sciopero della fame… a tutti/e voi, là fuori!
