The imprisoned comrade Dimitris Hatzivassiliadis started a hunger strike today in solidarity with the hunger striker Giannis Michailidis. The anarchist G. Michailidis has been on hunger strike since 23/5 to demand his rightful release from prison. He is already in his 51st day with the risk of permanent damage to his health. In this circumstance, the judicial authorities are prolonging the torture of Giannis since, to date, the prosecutor has not made any recommendation on the hunger striker’s demands.

URGENT: Prosecutor’s proposal to the council for the release of G. Michailidis

Today, Wednesday 6/7, the prosecutor’s proposal for the release of the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis, who has been on hunger strike since 23/5, was submitted to the council. The prosecutor’s proposal was rejected, so it now remains for the council to meet at an unspecified time.

There is no doubt. The judiciary is torturing and attempting to completely exterminate our comrade. Giannis has been entitled to his release for months now, as he fulfils the formal conditions, but he is being held “preventively” as a prisoner because the bastards of the state-judicial complex consider that “there is a risk that he will commit new offences”. They now want to cause irreparable damage to the striker’s health, with irreparable problems that will accompany him for the rest of his life.

We have no illusions. The justice system that has released murderers and rapists (Ep. Korkoneas, P. Filippides, Ath. Hortarias, Leventis) in the last few days is class-based. It is the voice of the state and capitalist society, which fears people like Giannis, because in their faces they carry the dignity and intransigence of a man who struggles and always keeps his head high. In their faces they carry the prospect of the revolutionary overthrow of the world of wage slavery and power.

We remain wholeheartedly on the side of our comrade to the end.

In the evening of 02/07 a group of comrades moved towards the building of YMET with the aim of attacking with stones and Molotov cocktails. At the same time, other comrades were setting up barricades outside the campus gate. After the attack and clashes with the cops guarding the building, a total of more than a hundred comrades lined the barricades.

Despite the widespread and murderous chemical firing, people stood their ground and the formations continued for about an hour, resulting in injuries to riot cops. Several hundred (not 50 like the media report) hooded in groups attack the MAT riot cops at the local cop station just round the corner from the Zorgrafou university campus, where there is also a 3 day Anti-Racist Festival occuring with Hip Hop live.

The attack on the cops sparks a 2 hour battle with the cops at the entrance to the campus, in which burning tyre barricades, fire extinguishers, a rain of stones and wave after wave of molotov attacks are inflicted on the state murderers in uniform. The riot only stops after a continous assault by the cops with not only CS gas but the internationally banned CN gas that burns skin.

On Thursday 30 June, the Assembly of Solidarity with the anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis called for the “3rd Panhellenic Day of Action and Solidarity for Giannis Michailidis”. In Athens the second central march took place, which started from Propylaea, passed through Omonia, reached Syntagma and ended again at Propylaea.

It numbered about 600 people, and was supported by several organisations and collectives. The police presence was again strong, with riot police cordoned off left and right to the end. Their attitude in this particular march was more provocative and abusive. However, the march was completed as normal.

On Saturday 28/5 we chose to given a life  to the neighborhood of the  exarxeia little more.

It was clear in our minds to give the state a clear message about how things will be from now on if the struggle of the anarchist G. Michailidis is not vindicated.

The comrade has been incarcerated since 2013 in the Greek prisons and already since 29/12/2021 he fulfils all the formal conditions for his conditional release. However, the judges of the Amfissa Magistrate’s Court rejected his application. In the era of the normality of speciesism, of the normality of the exploitation of animals (human or non-human), of the normality of confinement and prisons, of the normality of the culture of deprivation of freedom and, essentially, of life itself, of the normality of poverty, misery, sadness and depression, one does not fight for the obvious but for its reconceptualization.

Confinement, surveillance, lack of self-determination, deprivation of dignity… Prison. Giannis knows that to win the self-evident he must risk everything he has.

Medical opinion for the hunger striker Giannis Michailidis

On 24th of June 2022, I examined as his personal physician the detained hunger striker Mr. Michailidis in Lamia Hospital, who is hospitalized in the pathology clinic under surveillance.

From the clinical examination, as well as from the examination of his laboratory and paraclinical tests, the following results emerged: The hunger striker Mr. Michailidis, who is already on his 34th day of strike, has lost more than 21% of his body weight and has started to present serious health problems.

Specifically, I must point out that vital organs such as the liver, heart and spleen have already started to malfunction. Hunger striker Giannis Michailidis is already suffering from anaemia, thrombocytopenia, hypercholesterolemia and hypoalbuminemia.

He suffers from tachycardia and haemodynamic instability, severe gastrointestinal disorders and blood clotting disorders.

My medical assessment is that, in a very short period of time, he may develop severe multi-organ failure (circulatory, gastrointestinal, respiratory) as well as severe and irreversible failure of vital organs (liver failure, kidney failure, heart failure, brain haemorrhage), which may lead to “multi-organ failure”, a life-threatening condition for the hunger striker, or to the creation of permanent damage that will result in significant permanent disabilities.

The anarchist hunger striker Giannis Michailidis is on his 33rd day of hunger strike and is being treated in Lamia hospital with his health condition being extremely poor.

The state, exhausting its vindictiveness, is pushing the hunger striker into a life-or-death struggle, a struggle for freedom or submission. The games played by the Ministry of Propaganda and the Amfissa Judicial Council, which for the umpteenth time rejected the comrade’s request for temporary release, clearly demonstrate that their “correction” against the declared enemies of the state and capital is extermination and torture. Solidarity to the hunger striker from 23/5 Giannis Michailidis

Comrade Giannis Michailidis has been on hunger strike for almost a month now, aiming for his release, refusing to accept that political, agonistic and generally «undisciplined» prisoners will be left at the mercy of each service and each council as to when they «qualify» for release. We support the comrade’s struggle, knowing that it is not an individual solution, but is added to the more general attack we face inside and outside of prisons.

We chose to attack, on 16/6, with paints at the Heraklion District Court, sending a signal of solidarity and strength to the comrade who continues his struggle and calling for a multiplication of aggressive movements until Giannis is released from prison.
