Solidarity Means Attack

Last night 16/9, the windows of the new RE/MAX office on the Jan Evertsenstraat were spray painted with the text “sells stolen land” and “free palestine.” (Netherlands)

RE/MAX is an American international real estate company that operates in over 100 countries. The company has a franchise in occupied Palestine and sells properties in several colonial settlements in the West Bank. The property they claim to own and sell is land that has been stolen from the Palestinian people.

In doing so RE/MAX directly facilitates the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and profits from the ongoing colonization of Palestine. We hope our small gesture makes it clear that those complicit in genocide are not welcome in this city!

Towards Another Uprising

At the end of 2010 an individual act of despair in the town of Sidi Bouzid ignited a daring, enraged, and joyful upheaval that travelled through North Africa into the Middle East and beyond. People defied the oppressive systems they had been immersed in for generations and came together in the streets to topple the political elites at their helm. The authorities, at first stunned by this courageous spirit that they couldn’t understand, then unleashed a cynical and brutal response.

This defeat is still being inflicted on the people in the region, and is also felt all over the world by those who stood in solidarity with the uprisings but were mostly unable to overcome their powerlessness as the uprisings were massacred.

The horrors in the region during the last decade are many. To name some that stick most in my mind: Sisi has turned back the clock in Egypt to military dictatorship with the material support of the US. The regimes in the other North-African countries are paving over any sign of freedom while being coaxed by European countries to shut down the immigration routes over the Mediterranean. Without the murderous military campaigns of Hezbollah and the IRGC in Syria, Assad wouldn’t have survived the uprising. The Iranian regime itself brutally oppressed three different uprisings in the country in the last decade. Most people in Lebanon are in a daily struggle for survival because of the greed of its political leaders while mobs at the orders of Hezbollah beat down street protests. Early on in the uprisings, Hamas, who has shot political opponents in broad daylight on the streets of Gaza, culled attempts at an uprising by rounding up protest organizers and threatening them with murder. Leaders in the region understood once again that they can use any means against the populations under their control without real push-back from outside. Indifference, cynicism and opportunism trump moral appeals, and strategic alliances are always in play. The world churns on. For those of us who have not looked away, how can we not see a connection between Assad bombing Syrian cities into obliteration and Netanyahu razing Gaza?

Yesterday (October 11), masked individuals built barricades and confronted the police in the surroundings of the Instituto Nacional in commemoration of the death of Denisse Cortés, comrade and brigader/Human Rights observer who actively participated in the protection and safeguarding of her community in the context of social struggle.

Additionally, a banner was raised denouncing the bad moves and misappropriation of public funds regarding the management and payment of overtime of some officials of the establishment, who look out for their own interests instead of the educational community.

There were no arrests.

In July 2019, at Leroy Merlin(Leroy Merlin is a French-headquartered home improvement and gardening retailer serving several countries in Europe,) in Piraeus, an attempt to remove low-priced products by comrades Christoforos Kortesis, and Thymios A. takes place. This is the reason for the targeting of trade unionist-comrade Giannis A. by the security company OVIT employed by Leroy. Giannis A. does not resign as indicated by the management. After being held hostage for 3 hours the two comrades leave the “small room” of the store with the help of four more comrades. The next afternoon, the cops kidnap Christoforos K., take him to the GADA ( headquarters police in Athens) and charge him, as the prosecutor Angeloudi upgrades this to felony.

The mire of defeatism and misery sucks us in deeper and deeper as we remain passive in the face of repression, terrorism and death sown by States.

The dystopian present is methodically growing, two more people are added to the long list of dead in the police hellholes. 37-year-old Mohammed Kamran Asik, having been transferred to 5 different police stations while he was missing, was eventually found dead at Agios Panteleimonas AT (cop station), in a room without cameras, with strong signs of torture. Mia Harizul, 29, was found hanged at AT Omonia (cop station) in a detention facility without cameras with 11 other detainees present. It is clear that these are murders, with their expected cover-ups by regime snitches at the same time as the government under the auspices of law and order, but also in order to safeguard its vomitic international relations with genocidal States, is forcing its dogs to suppress any kind of resistance. This tactic is proven in practice, when on 7/10 the pro-Palestine march heading to the Israeli embassy is brutally attacked by cops, people are arrested and charged with felonies.

As for me, I had many wonderful moments, since I was never of this world… and for he who wants to live truly, it helps a lot to be written off from the beginning.

On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the anarchist Giorgos Angeletakis passed away, fighting until his last breath with the heart problem he had.

Comrade Giorgos, from the first march he participated in, at the Polytechnic in 1980 at the age of just 14 years, until the end gave his presence tirelessly and consistently to every struggle for social liberation. From class struggles, working in factories and construction sites from a young age, to defending imprisoned and persecuted fighters. Always in the forefront on the street, in the assemblies, in the events, in the posters, through his writings.

He was to the end an uncompromising fighter, a fighting revolutionary, a true man, who walked with dignity throughout his life with the ideals of solidarity, equality, freedom, Anarchy and Communism.

The void he leaves is great, but he will live forever in our hearts and thoughts.

He will always accompany us until Victory.

Have a good trip comrade and good luck.

On October 19th at 13.00 in Monastiraki we participate and support together with a number of collectives from different neighborhoods of Attica the course of defense of open spaces and greenery. Parks, squares, hills and the urban green in general are under constant attack by the authorities, municipalities, corporations and the state, which act destructively for profit and the suppression of lives that resist or do not fit into their molds. Greenery is disappearing and the city we live in is turning more and more into a cement city surrounded by the ashes of burnt forests . A suffocating city that welcomes tourists and the rich, while ignoring, repressing or displacing from its center the poorest strata, the immigrant women and people who fight against the violent destruction of everyday life. They want a gray city, sterile and guarded by cameras and uniformed killers, we colorful and self-organized neighborhoods .

In the past, mainly against the Municipality of Athens and Bakoyannis, (mayor) many assemblies for squares and parks resisted the encroachment of capital and the annihilation of greenery, creating a series of collective resistance in the neighborhoods. These battles for the defense of green open spaces were linked to initiatives in various areas of Attica Athens from Baroutadiko in Aegaleo to the Shooting Range in Kaisariani and the Platonos Academy in Kolonos.

“In Mornas (Vaucluse), hunters are wondering who is destroying their tree stands. These 1.50-2 m towers are erected in the wild to make hunting safer: the bullet is no longer fired horizontally, but towards the ground at an angle of 30 degrees.

For several years now, the watchtowers of the sixty Mornas hunters have been deliberately damaged. The towers are sawed off, torn from their bases and attached to the cars with cables. A few years ago, there were 21 watchtowers. Now there are just 9!

The hunters speak of “sabotage” and are worried about the future of their hunting area: the 1,100 hectares of the Uchaux hill are also very popular with hikers and mountain bikers. The Mornas hunters have not lodged a complaint, but they are concerned about the sharing of nature.

For a year now, every person on the planet who is not indifferent or excluded from the general forms of information, when they hear this date, they automatically associate it with a specific event of historical significance. And yet, all this time, apart from the Palestinian resistance, only the NATO imperialists and their subordinates have been referring to this date, in the terms of counter-revolution, the narratives of “counter-terrorism”, in order to exonerate the genocide of a revolted people.

The testimony of resistance creates in immediate time the continuity of living memory, relaying and extending the power of revolutionary experience. Against this experience stand the narratives which take a distance from the testimony of the resistance subject, as well as the silence that, like a threateningly insidious command, objectively established, attempts to eliminate the historical intrusions of those revolutionary initiatives that are subversive for the rulers’ order.

I think that after 5 months of conscious silence, it’s time to say a few words about the general regime of detention that the repression mechanisms are building against me. The issues of Greek prisons are more or less known and not only are there no attempts to solve them, but they are constantly increasing. Prisoners suffer daily from the obvious indifference of the State, which is now clearly being supplemented by vindictiveness towards us.

Speaking about my own journey through prisons, about the vindictiveness and obsession with my person, I do not speak in terms of a victim, I do not speak with any predilection for regret or repentance. I speak as a recalcitrant prisoner, who for so many years does not give up, does not back down, is not touched by their tricks – in simple words, I do not even see them. For all these reasons, 4 months ago, they vengefully shuffled me from Domokos prison to the garbage dump of Grevena  prison (a condition that is beginning to become a norm for other prisoners as well), as a first punitive move against the events surrounding the attack with a trapped parcel on the scumbag-president of appeals Thess/niki Anastasia Anthopoulou.

We made a choice to saw into 2 hunting towers in Staunton and the other NR St. Briavels, both in the Forest of Dean. This simple action was taken with the thoughts in our minds of pine martins in Germany and Switzerland that chew into brake cables whilst keeping warm and snuggled up to cooling down engines and also not forgetting the martins in the UK that were pretty much wiped out for their taste in game bird, their eggs and caged poultry, but now some 60 pairs have been released back into the wilds of the Forest of Dean.

So this bring us to welcome Toby Shone who’s to be released from HMP Garth NR Manchester early next month (9th Nov) who before his imprisonment enjoyed over a decade of his life in this beautiful countryside. Good luck with your future Toby!

Suspected arson at Atlanta construction site of Brent Scarborough and Company, Inc. (USA)

Law enforcement agencies are investigating a suspected arson in Atlanta early Wednesday at a construction site of a company previously targeted in similar incidents over its role in the building of the police and fire training facility that has faced a long-running protest and opposition movement.

It happened at a cleared lot on Memorial Drive next to new apartments as part of what appears to be a construction project.

Wednesday’s suspected arson follows on several other incidents that have targeted construction sites over connections to the building of the public safety training center.
