BALKAN ANARCHIST BOOKFAIR 2025, THESSALONIKI 15-18 MAY –  OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

On the 7th of July 2024, during the general assembly of the participants of the Balkan Anarchist Bookfair in Pristina, there was a proposal that the next BAB take place in Thessaloniki. The collectives and individuals from Thessaloniki who were present asked for ten days to think about it and respond. After a meeting of the Thessaloniki collectives that have worked together within the BAB framework and the Balkan Solidarity network, the answer was yes: The 17th Balkan Anarchist Bookfair will take place in Thessaloniki, from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 May 2025. It was also decided that the organizing assembly would be formed after a call to all collectives of Thessaloniki, but also to collectives from other cities (Athens, Ioannina) that have also worked together within the BAB and the Balkan Solidarity network.

The Balkan Anarchist Bookfair has never just been about books. We have always understood it as one more tool that strengthens our collectives, organizations, relations and networks on a local, a regional and an international level, as a space where we exchange our ideas and plans and also bring together our practices, organizing models and experiences of struggle, our participation in social movements. In September 2024, in a joint assembly held in Thessaloniki with all the collectives of the city that responded to the invitation to participate in the organizational assembly, we set the goal of bringing together the largest possible number of comrades from all over the Balkans in order to discuss, in an organized way, our agreements and disagreements and to make concrete proposals for common struggles and actions. We agreed to have as an initial agenda for BAB2025 the common topics discussed at the Ljubljana and Prishtina bookfairs (2023 and 2024) and started to set up the different working groups.

Claudio Crespo has been identified as the cop who shot and mutilated the eyes of a young person on November 8, 2019, when the October revolt was in full swing. A few days ago, the CIPER media released body camera footage of the chilean police [1], in which phrases can be heard like: “we’re going to shoot your eyes out”, “let the fucker burn” or “all these fuckers have to get killed“. In other audiovisual recordings he can be observed tearing out a lock of hair from a detainee’s head and sending a photo of it as a trophy to a Whatsapp group called “Scissors” where it seems it was common practice for these miserable police to send records of their “trophies”.

Days after the release of these videos, the cop Claudio Crespo affirmed that “I regret nothing” and “I don’t give a shit”. [2]

Does this surprise us? No. The police is the armed wing of the powerful, defenders of the flesh and blood of property, modern pacifiers who for a salary have decided to take up arms against those who challenge normality and confront a system of life sustained by hierarchies and obedience using the various practices of political violence. In this sense, the words of the cop in question represent the dynamics of the police, who possess no codes at the time of confrontation and make morbid, mocking remarks as a kind of gesture to show their masters that they work to defend their interests. Like a gaucho hanging the dismembered body of a cougar from the pediment of the plots in Patagonia, so the bosses know about their work, unaware that, at some point, the hunters will become the hunted. New incendiary attack against NGE in support of Louna in Val d’Oise. The GIEC announces the resumption of demolition work on the Roissy-Picardie link.

Last weekend, anarchist lightning struck a second time at the same site, where NGE and Egis are building the Roissy-Picardie rail link.

Armed with rage at the news of the extension of Louna’s pre-trial detention (accused of having set fire to an NGE machine), we wanted to add our own contribution. So, on a quiet night, two machines were attacked. At least one of them ended up completely engulfed in flames.

This site had already been targeted at the end of January by anarchists in support of the zadists against the A69 and the Bordeaux-Toulouse high-speed train line. The communiqué claiming responsibility for the action prompted us to take a look, and add a little smoke. As a reminder.

Various politically-engaged social centers in the city are facing evictions, seeing their contracts finishing, with no possibility to open new spaces…

On Monday night, April 14th, anarchists entered Collège de Maisonneuve, which hosts the police training program, Techniques policières. The entrance was painted with “MINI COPS = FUTURE KILLERS” and “JUSTICE FOR ABISAY CRUZ” as well as other tags like “3 STATE MURDERS IN 24H” and “MAKE FASCISTS AFRAID”. A fire extinguisher filled with paint was very helpful, and a window was smashed.

We do not forget the murders and abuses committed by the Montreal police over the last few weeks; readers, please spread the popular vengeance. To the students of the Techniques policières program: drop out and change paths, it is not a safe future, neither for us, nor for you.

The cornerstone of a sustainable arson campaign is reliable delayed ignition. However, for small groups without a secure procurement network (which is most of them), many older instructions for making timers are simply no longer feasible.

The rise of online stores in recent years has made it almost impossible to get transistors or ICs from local electronics stores with cash. Even if there is such a store in your area, caution is advised as the police are sometimes surprisingly good at tracing back electrical components. Internet ordering is also unfortunately not an option for our purposes. If you try to solder the required parts out of cheap devices from the dollar store, you will quickly realize that the surface mount device (SMD) components used today are usually much too small to solder by hand.

This guide therefore came out of the desire to share our experience with materials that are readily available at supermarkets or hardware stores. It can also be considered an update to the ELF guide “Setting Fires with Electrical Timers”, which is still well worth reading.

This week, I was strolling around Caen. Raising my head from my smartphone because of a pavement, I saw on the premises of the Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire et de Radioprotection [Nuclear and radioprotection safety authority] and (ASNR, born from the recent fusion between the ASN and IRSN) splotches of red paint at the top of the building facade, stenciled skulls and « Down with nuclear » sprayed on the entrance.

The mountain has neither mouth nor arms to defend itself.
In early spring 2025 at Saint Jean de Maurienne, heavy damage was done to a conveyor transporting the entrails torn from the mountain, as well as construction machinery to put it out of action. The damage was accompanied with the messages « Get lost TELT » and «Useless Project ».

Three nights of attacks on the prison guards and an initial summary in france

Tarascon (Bouches-du-Rhône), Wednesday April 16th, 5:20 a.m.: three cars set alight in the parking lot of the prison.

Since the evening of Sunday April 13, a wave of incendiary attacks (and not only) has hit the penitentiary and the property of its minions in a dozen towns in the south of France and the Paris region. After an initial detailed summary published the day before yesterday, here’s a short, fiery supplement on the third night, from Tuesday to Wednesday April 16, when the guards once again had a taste of ashes.

In addition, while DDPF tags (which journalists believe to be an acronym for “Défense des droits des prisonniers français”, named after a Telegram channel) were found alongside several of the targeted targets, the Ministry of the Interior also mentions “anarchist slogans”. Today, one of its daily mouthpieces gave a little more detail on this subject (Le Monde, 17/4), stating that “in Angers in particular, spray-painted inscriptions were found on the facades of houses close to the prison: ‘support for convicts’ and ‘prison kills’”. In reality, these tags had been drawn up at the beginning of April, i.e. before the attacks… which in no way detracts from their relevance, on the contrary, particularly the “crèvent les taules” (“destroy prisons”) which is so hotly topical in the area.

Lastly, in a lengthy interview with France info (17/4), the national anti-terrorist prosecutor, Olivier Christen, gave his own account of the attacks: he reported “12 incidents, two against the personal homes of prison officers, one against vehicles in the parking lots of the École nationale pénitentiaire (Enap) and nine directly against prisons”. Geographically, “eight départements were affected”, including “a third of the incidents committed in the Bouches-du-Rhône and a third in the Île-de-France region”, with a total of “21 vehicles torched and a dozen vehicles damaged” (not to mention the machine-gunning of the Toulon prison gate and the burning of the ERIS prison gate in Aix-Luynes). In conclusion, this fanatical defender of state terrorism and fervent supporter of armored propaganda, even added a layer of conspiracy theorizing of which he has a secret: “It could be groups of politically radicalized people, it could be groups more linked to organized crime, it could also be a convergence of objectives and people manipulating each other: anything is possible”.
