Luzenac: has a criminal act targeted the talc quarry?

Has the Trimouns quarry, one of the world’s largest talc operations, been the target of an act of vandalism? Situated at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, this strategic site alone accounts for almost 10% of the world’s production, with 400,000 tons extracted every year. A fire of suspicious origin recently damaged essential installations, without however interrupting operations.

At around 5 a.m. on Monday May 12, teams from Imerys, the multinational in charge of operations, discovered the damage. The installations upstream of the cable car had been hit by a fire, causing extensive material damage. “Initial observations reveal that the conveyor belts and electrical system have been severely damaged,” confirms a company spokesperson. No casualties were reported, but according to several sources, the cost of repairs would exceed half a million euros. The group declined to comment on this estimate.

In the country’s ostensibly “correctional” institutions and in the otherwise blind and independent justice system that decides who will become an inmate and who will not, their criteria are not evidence of guilt but ideological position, wallet size, skin color, party connections, and the privileged clique to which some belong.

It is clear that Greek courts are anything but incorruptible. Every day, hundreds of trials are held in the country with the aim of repressing and intimidating citizens. For the majority of people, exhausting laws, mass detentions, and illogical sentences have made conditions in the country’s prisons unbearable and inhumane, culminating in the New Democracy party’s repressive resolutions, such as the new penal code and the abolition of all the acquired rights of the state .

Three Rail fires in three months: some facts and thoughts (USA)

Over the last three months, three rail bridges have been damaged or destroyed by fires in the Oregon and Washington area. Each of these fires was set intentionally. No arrests have been made, and to our knowledge, none of these actions have been accompanied by any claim or explanation.

But the world around us is the only explanation we need.

As we barrel forward towards a future of untold climate disasters and total ecological mutilation, the processes of extraction show no sign of stopping… They have only accelerated, with companies racing to exploit new corners of the earth for rare-earth minerals, essential components in chips and semi-conductors, the building blocks of our new digital prisons. Power has proposed false “green solutions” that only serve to further our dependence on technology and extraction and polish the face of industrial capitalism.

The fires

In May, a fire completely destroyed a 100 year old wooden rail bridge along a remote stretch of the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad in Washington. By the time firefighters could reach the blaze, the rail bridge was reduced to a smoldering, maimed clump of metal. The fire struck just hours after a sale was completed of the railway, transferring ownership to the Western Forest Industries Museum. Rail Operations were limited at the time of the fire, but the new company had planned to fully resume rail traffic on the line, both tourist and freight. A group of six masked people vandalized the Southeast Madison Street office of the coworking space Kiln at about 6:45 pm on Thursday, in full view of diners at nearby restaurants and food carts. Flyers left behind at Kiln’s office suggested Kiln was targeted for hosting an artificial intelligence networking event.

The incident appears to coincide with AI Portland’s Summer Soiree event held last night. The networking event, which began at 6 pm, was organized for AI professionals and fans to nerd out over data and algorithms.
