Bouches-du-Rhône: Sabotage Against the CEA in Cadarache
Indymedia Lille, June 18, 2026
On the night of Sunday, May 17, 2026, we sawed through a pylon on the 400,000-volt power line supplying the CEA [French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission] in Cadarache. Unfortunately, there was no short circuit.
A significant chapter in the history of French nuclear power was written in Cadarache. It was there that the nuclear propulsion systems for nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines — the flagship of France’s nuclear deterrent — were developed. Today, the site is home to the ITER project, a nuclear fusion research initiative that hopes to make us swallow the myth of clean, renewable, and infinite energy.
We’ll be told that this action is dangerous, but it is the day-to-day normality of nuclear power that poses the real danger. To avoid any risk of an accident, we have left the other power line supplying the site intact; the site also has its own hydroelectric dam.
The media has kept silent on our action. We would like to take this opportunity to greet all those who are fighting against nuclear power. We are taking advantage of the last days of spring to join the campaign “Hotter Than Nuclear – For a Black Spring in 2026” and greet the other groups that have answered the call. Our thoughts go out to the evicted Gare collective and all those fighting against Cigéo. From basic research to waste disposal — down with the nuclear industry!
In memory of Sara and Sandro, who live on in the struggle!
Nuclear power? No, thank you!
