No more trains today in part of the Randstad (Netherlands) due to fire at a substation
12th of June – Due to a fire at a substation along the tracks in Woerden there are no trains running on the routes between Utrecht and The Hague and between Utrecht and Rotterdam.
Three trains were stranded on these routes, carrying a total of at least 1,000 passengers, according to NS. The passengers have been evacuated.
The fire at the distribution station has been extinguished. It must now be disconnected and repaired. “That requires a great deal of expertise, and it’s quite a major undertaking,” according to ProRail. That is why it will no longer be possible to resume the schedule today.
In a distribution station—officially called a substation—electricity enters and is sent to the overhead wires, allowing trains to run.
The cause of the fire is not yet known…
