The day originates from the events of February 6, 2014, when a group of migrants attempted to cross into Spain by swimming and was met with a murderous attack by the Spanish police using rubber bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas, resulting in the drowning of 15 people.
This year, the necessity of such a day here in Greece becomes evident and is marked by the murderous attack carried out by the Coast Guard on 3/2/26 against 34 people in the sea off Chios, of whom we are currently counting 15 dead. The so-called pushbacks are nothing more than cold-blooded murders of migrants in the Aegean Sea, and they have claimed thousands of victims since 2017, when they first became publicly known. It had been an open secret for many years that the Coast Guard had orders to “remove” vessels carrying migrants orders they execute by any means necessary. This open secret became known worldwide with the cold-blooded murder of over 600 people off the coast of Pylos. No one today has the right to claim ignorance; no one today has the right to believe the excuses of the Greek state, the Coast Guard, and the government. And yet. After the new horrific murder of at least 15 people, a wave of paid-off mainstream media rushed to whitewash the disgrace. They even write that the vessel carrying migrants attempted to “ram” the Coast Guard. They also portray the dead and the victims as “smugglers.”
It is our duty the duty of every person who has not yet renounced their humanity to become prey to profit and the service of power to resist the mass state killings of migrants.People from the social base must look at those beside us and understand that we only have each other. Locals and migrants must unite in the struggle for life and dignity, because it is not only death that unites us. Struggles against the murderers of the Coast Guard and those who give the orders.Struggles for communities where all races, nationalities, languages, religions, and places of origin are equal and welcome where together we determine our own lives where the hand of the state and the market is cut off. With solidarity and militant confrontation with the state and its governments, we can and must stop the war against migrants.
THE COAST GUARD IS NOT DEFENDING ITSELF IT IS KILLING
