Bicycle and Motorbikes demo Against Detention Centres

On Saturday 22 November the Assembly Against Detention Centres organised a demonstration moving through the city towards the migrant prison, Allodapon, Petrou Ralli, in solidarty with the migrant struggle against detention centres and imprisonment.

Around 70 people gathered at the starting point in Plateia Amerikis with motos and bicycles. There, as well as in Plateia Viktoria and Plateia Agios Panteleimonas, where the demonstration stopped for some time along the route, we distributed texts and threw trikakia, against the presence of cops in our squares and neighborhoods, against the racist police operations.With our stops in the plateias on the way to the prison for migrants in Petrou Ralli, we aimed to highlight the connection between the city, our neighborhoods, and prisons. People are taken by the cops on a daily basis because of their papers from the plateias, streets and stations to prisons like Petrou Ralli or Amygdaleza which are purposefully isolated. By passing through Stathmos larisis and viktoria we aimed to highlight how bus, metros and trains are now locations where cops target people to check papers – made clear when one such group of cops hid inside the metro as we passed.

The cops had moved the people imprisoned in Petrou Ralli away from the windows that face the street or closed them entirely in their cells, in order to prevent us from having communication with the prisoners. We know that they still heard us however, and this action clearly shows that the cops don’t want solidarity to be heard or to be seen. We will continue to fight this logic of isolation and oppression. Against every detention centre! Fire to the prisons! For a world without papers!

قام رجال الشرطة بنقل الأشخاص المسجونين في بيترو رالي بعيدًا عن النوافذ التي تواجه الشارع أو أغلقوهم تمامًا في زنازينهم، وذلك لمنعنا من التواصل مع السجناء. ومع ذلك، فإننا نعلم أنهم ما زالوا يسمعوننا، وهذا الإجراء يوضح بوضوح أن رجال الشرطة لا يريدون أن يُسمع صوت التضامن أو يُرى
