Yesterday, Friday 6/6, we carried out interventions in two McDonald’s stores, in the Slaughterhouses area and in Finikas.

McDonald’s is a multinational company that chooses to have stores in areas of Israel that maintains an apartheid regime for the few Palestinians who live in them as second-class citizens, and is carrying out long-term genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and massacres in the occupied West Bank. In the past, and specifically in 2024, McDonald’s distributed free meals to the genocidal Israeli army (IDF), a political choice that they were forced to stop following international social pressure. The pressures we are trying to exert aim to increase opposition to the genocide in order to end it and ensure the victory of the Palestinians.

The text of the intervention give out follows:

The Palestinian people are in a dire situation as the Israeli state intensifies its ethnic cleansing efforts and genocidal war against them. In recent months it has cut off and attacked every humanitarian aid effort and we see it using the destructive weapon of famine as a tool of war. At the same time, the Palestinian Resistance and the daily struggles of the Palestinians do not give up their efforts to survive, to have dignity and to claim their land.

Despite the threat of death or imprisonment, against the attempt to annihilate them, they insist on remaining, even in their demolished homes. Together with their families they fight back with whatever means they have and organize themselves into armed groups.
At this juncture, we believe that solidarity actions with the Palestinian people must intensify.

Our duty is to demonstrate the responsibility of the Greek state in the genocide, to oppose its military/technological cooperation with the Israeli state. All Western states, the EU and NATO are actively supporting the genocide by providing political and material support, at the same time as Russia and China are equipping the Israeli army with drones. The Greek state is a hub in NATO’s plans by providing military bases and creating a headquarters in Larissa against the Houthis in Yemen. It participates in bloody agreements (with so-called “cable” for its electrical interconnection with Israel as a typical example), genocide and interstate wars in the Middle East, greasing the gears of its own capitalist mechanism. This means that it will continue and intensify the war it is waging against both its external and internal enemy with further repression, exploitation and brutality for the most undervalued class and social segments such as immigrants and the Roma.

In the same context, we see Israel’s attempt to completely dehumanize the Palestinians. For this reason, we must highlight the destructive death policies of the colonial monster Israel and target the investment cooperation of Israeli-Greek capital, especially when it reaches our cities, and in the case of Thessaloniki mainly through the tourism and real estate industries. This will only be possible if we extend the pressure exerted by solidarity demonstrations and other solidarity actions of all kinds in the struggle of the Palestinians for their lives.

The relentless attack by Israel and its partners, with bombings of apartment complexes, schools, and hospitals, has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians, while driving 2 million people into neighbouring countries, uprooting them en masse from their homes. While this genocide is taking place, Israeli finance ministers, along with their counterparts in the United States and Europe, are already planning how to exploit Gaza and the West Bank, after first completely destroying what is left of Palestine in order to turn it into a vast investment paradise and tourist resort.

It is impossible to ignore the production of discourse around the genocide and its pro-Israeli propaganda management by the Western media giants. In a desperate attempt to wash their hands of the blood spilled by misanthropic politicians at the expense of Palestine, news and art are promoted where Israel is presented as a cradle of civilization and an enclave of humanitarian ideals within the “barbaric Middle East”.

All this, of course, forgetting the divisions it imposes on its own Israeli population and the relentless hardship of the lives of women-feminines and queer Palestinians through the total attacks on Gaza and the West Bank, specifically through the bombing of hospitals that affect Palestinian women in yet another way, by threatening their reproductive health with the aim of annihilating them as their care in cases of pregnancy and childbirth is impossible.

At the same time, sexualized violence is used as a means of invasion even inside their own bodies and is mainly aimed at femininity and hostages (regardless of gender) who fall into the hands of the Israeli forces. Tactics of sexualized violence were already being used by Israel, especially at border checkpoints and on prisoners in the prisons of the Israeli republic. The peak of this violence was last year’s revelations from the Palestinian concentration camp “Sde Teman” about continuous rape and abuse against them.

The genocidal leveling of Gaza shows us the very devaluation of the human condition that characterizes the entire Western civilization in the most brutal way. But it also shows us that the only way out for life and human dignity is resistance, and that it is always possible. We must listen. To defend and embrace the struggle of the Palestinians until freedom.
