Loveland’s Tesla dealership was targeted in a possible “copycat” arson and vandalism incident early Friday, according to a Loveland Police Department news release.
Just after midnight, police were dispatched to the dealership, 1606 N. Lincoln Ave., where they found an incendiary device that had caught fire between two vehicles near the dealership building. A responding officer extinguished the fire. The building and several vehicles were also damaged by what appeared to be thrown rocks, according to the release.
Several people working on a late-night cleaning crew were inside the dealership at the time of the incident, Loveland Police Department Public Information Officer Chris Padgett said.
This is the latest vandalism or arson attempt at the Loveland dealership, which previously saw similar incidents on Jan. 29, Feb. 2, Feb. 7 and Feb. 24.
The Feb. 7 incident involved suspected arson and graffiti on the dealership’s building and vehicles that “were offensive and hateful in nature,” according to police at the time.
No signs of physical damage were visible to the dealership building Feb. 7, but a reporter did see the phrase “Nazi Car” spray painted and partially covered up on the back of the dealership’s easternmost building.
Just over two weeks later, [x] was arrested in connection with the Feb. 24 incident and is suspected in the three before that, Padgett confirmed after [the persons] arrest.
[x] was booked on charges of criminal mischief, a Class 2 felony; criminal attempt to commit a Class 3 felony and the use of explosives or incendiary devices in the commission of or in an attempt to commit a Class 2 felony. [x] was later charged with one count of malicious destruction of property at the federal level, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
[x] was recently released on a personal recognizance bond for that federal charge, according to the Loveland Police news release. The Friday arson incident at the car dealership does not appear to be connected to [x], it added.
