Val-de-Reuil (Eure) France : “destroy the industrial base”

In Eure, the Lafarge industrial site was attacked in Val-de-Reuil

Several Lafarge industrial sites were occupied and tagged by environmental groups across France as part of a “day of action against Lafarge and the world of concrete”. This Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., the Lafarge site in Val-de-Reuil, Eure, was no exception, announced the department’s prefecture on X (formerly Twitter): “The Lafarge site has just been the object of a violent attack by environmental militants aimed at destroying the industrial base”.

On site, the militants caused “extremely serious” damage to the facilities, according to the Bernay sub-prefect, Philippe Fournier-Montgieux. Products were introduced into the concrete silos to prevent the site from operating. Damage could amount to several hundred thousand euros. A total of 18 employees are out of work. The site will not be able to resume normal operations this Monday, December 11.

The attack lasted around ten or twelve minutes. “The guard was sequestered in his guard room with the door locked. Before being sequestered, he had time to alert the police, who quickly arrived on the scene. The two patrols from Louviers and Val-de-Reuil put the individuals to flight. “The police officers were slightly jostled,” explains the public prosecutor. “It’s obviously an action by environmental militants, without saying to which group they belong. We’re monitoring social networks, if anything is posted online.”

Around 50 police officers and the operator were still on site this afternoon, joined at around 6pm by a brigade from the SDAT (Sous-direction anti-terroriste). With all the militants having fled, no arrests have been made, but analysis of the video tapes could help identify them.

An investigation has been opened for joint degradation, sequestration with voluntary release before the seventh day, and violence against a person holding public authority without ITT. The Évreux public prosecutor’s office has been contacted, along with the Rouen judicial police (PJ) and the anti-terrorist sub-directorate (SDAT).
