Vandalized internet fiber optic cabinets in Loire-Atlantique: the work of an expert
Le Courrier du pays de Retz, March 28, 2023 (extract)

Since March 21, 2023, panic reigns in Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau (Loire-Atlantique). Several dozen homes, rather located in the east of the town, have been cut off from the Internet. Inhabitants of La Montagne and Le Pellerin were also affected by the giant blackout. The cause? Several fiber cabinets vandalized. Free, Orange, SFR, Bouygues … All operators are affected. On a Facebook page dedicated to residents, there are several testimonials and several figures: “85 homes affected”; “between 300 and 600 people impacted”.

The technicians of Xpfibre (independent infrastructure operator of France) worked, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March, to restore their connection. Some homes are still at decreased capacity but the situation should be restored in the coming days. For the regional delegate of XpFibre, “it is a sabotage by experts. They cut at the lowest part of the tubes. They proceeded in such a way as to make the repairs as long and complicated as possible. This is an act of vandalism committed by someone who knows their way around.”

A report has been filed. The investigation is ongoing. It is therefore impossible to know how many cabinets have been damaged, but according to a resident of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau, affected by this breakdown, there are 6 or 7.
