Necessary clarifications concerning political imprisonment in Chile in the face of opportunistic liberal denialism dressed up as solidarity and support groups.
1. Political imprisonment in Chile has always existed because it is inherent to the authoritarian world and the logic of domination and did not begin on October 18, 2019 with the so-called “social explosion”.
2. From 1990 to date, continuously, there are people who have been part of different expressions of anti-capitalist combat who have fought insistently against the State and on that path have encountered prison, clandestinity or death.
3. In the decade of the 90’s more than 500 people went to prison, were prosecuted by the shameful – still prevailing – military justice system and sentenced for belonging to the political-military leftist groups that maintained the armed struggle until the middle of that decade.
4. The weichan, the Mapuche war of liberation, has supported weichafe and zomo weichafe prisoners subjected to the diverse laws of the Chilean state for approximately 25 years and until today, reaching its peak with more than 50 peñi and lamien in prison.
5. From the 2000s onwards multiple autonomous efforts and individuals at war against commodity society have seen prison time as punishment for their choice of radical struggle.
6. From 2005 until today many comrades have had to face prison as a result of their convictions and choices of struggle: from those imprisoned for the struggle in the streets, for squatting, for explosive and incendiary devices, for robberies and expropriations with police deaths.
7. Since that time, new trials plagued with irregularities were activated against autonomous subversive comrades who are still in prison with clearly political sentences in constant complicity with the press of power and the entire ruling political class.
8. Since that same time diverse anarchist efforts have received the punishment of the State through the constant persecution of the entire political class from the left of capital through the Communist Party and all its henchmen to the extreme Chilean right.
9. The last decade has been one of continuous condemnation, repression, defamation and sustained attack on the anarchist and subversive environments with clear policies of the ANI (national intelligence agency) and all its propaganda apparatus to fragment and divide the persistent efforts to legitimize the insurrectional violence of the active minorities that have kept the flame of Subversion as an undeniable ferment of direct struggle against the rotten Chilean democracy defended these 30 years by the same ones that today present themselves as the maximum exponents of dignity.
10. When those who today claim to define who is or is not a political prisoner from the comfort of who has never risked anything, establishing as the only point of reference the people imprisoned for the Revolt. When history is rewritten at will and convenience, denying the history and comprehensiveness of the illegal struggle to transform everything; they are serving power with the clear purpose of erasing the names and concrete faces of those who have paid with years in prison for daring to confront capital, its supporters and false critics.
11. No one will be able to erase the history of offensive resistance inside and outside of Chilean prisons, because in this is the commitment of hundreds of comrades and accomplices throughout the world who do not and will not stop until they see the last bastion of prison society fall.
