On February 24th 2023 the Italian judiciary issued its own decision on the lifting of the strict isolation 41 bis imposed on Alfredo Cospito.

The defence had called for a transfer from the solitary confinement regime imposed following Alfredo’s articles from the prison. The anarchist comrade decided to go on a hunger strike to the death to free himself from the brutal isolation regime known as 41 bis.

For over 120 days the comrade has put his body on the front line in the battle against the State, being supported by numerous internationalist actions around the world. By this time the comrade was in a state of severe physical deterioration, most likely irrecoverable, pending the outcome of the hearing.

(Untill the last breath – The case of Alfredo Cospito and Anna Beniamino)

Since 20 October 2022, Alfredo Cospito, an anarchist militant imprisoned for actions that have not resulted in any deaths, has been on hunger strike against the 41bis prison regime and the hostile life sentence to which he has been subjected for several months. His protest is not just a personal battle, but a political struggle against 41bis and life imprisonment. The 41 bis is a particularly afflictive regime, created to fight the mafia in 1992 and extended in the 2000s to terrorist organisations.

It includes, among other restrictions, isolation from other inmates, limitations to visits by family members, limited air time and constant surveillance by a special department of the prison police. So far, Alfredo has lost 40 kilos and is in critical condition. Last week, the Italian high court rejected an appeal by his lawyers. This latest decision is essentially a death sentence.

Norfolk Southern Rail Sabotage – Philadelphia,USA

Actforfree receive and spread:

In solidarity with the struggle against the police, entertainment and real estate industry in the Welanuee forest, the mainline belonging to the Norfolk Southern company in Lenape territory north of so called Philadelphia was sabotaged. Copper wire was used to connect the tracks, tripping the signal and potentially stopping train traffic until the wire is located. This action is incredible easy and simple to repeat.

NS funds the Atlanta police foundation, and is also responsible for the large spill of toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio.

The spill of vinyl chloride is toxic when it leaks into the ground and air, but don’t forget that this chemical is being used in large scale production of everyday industrial products. Large shipping companies like NS are the circulatory system of industrial colonialism. NS is responsible for massive ecological and social devastation through disasters like the recent derailment but they do even more damage when they function with out derailments.

The writings of Tiqqun and the Invisible Committee have given rise to the emergence of an authoritarian insurrectionalist tendency that has been recruiting and building its ranks for about the past decade and a half. Although one of the trademarks of tiqqunism is its approach to “invisibility”, or not being legible as a distinct tendency, after so many years and some significant betrayals, tiqqunists have thoroughly revealed who they are and what they want, which is at direct odds with any struggle against authority.

While tiqqunism has crossed the pond from France and taken root across turtle island to some extent, the anarchist critique of tiqqunism has not. This reflects a general commitment to tolerance in the anarchist space, an unfortunate reaction against the ideological dogmatism that silos people in insular and stale subcultural enclosures. Thinking through the lens of this false dilemma comes at the expense of uncompromising clarity around how we relate to power, reformism, representation, and the mechanisms of politics. In short, this tolerance, even when motivated by a desire for openness and connection, blurs the lines which lie at the very foundation of autonomy and self-organization. Athens, Greece: Expropriation of products in My Market in Patisia area.

Athens: Expropriation of products in My Market in Patisia area

Precision pricing is one of the most recent manifestations of class violence unleashed by the State and the bosses on those below. The already unaffordable prices of basic goods for some have been inflated through location, resulting in privilege for the haves over the have-nots. With capital striding on the backs of the social base, further impoverishing it, and the State being the institutional guardian of capitalist restructuring and repression, taking our lives into our own hands is the only solution. We will not divide our needs into basic and non-basic, we will not step back on what belongs to us, we will fight side by side until the final elimination of the State and classes.

In the context of the ongoing mobilizations against precision pricing, revaluations and the overall devaluation of our lives, on Saturday 4/2 an intervention was held by about 25 comrades in My Market in the area of Gravas in Patisia. Various kinds of products were expropriated and after the end of the intervention they were distributed to the people who were in the street market near the supermarket.

Athens, Greece: Taking responsibility for attacks against fascists by Anarchists

Athens: Taking responsibility for attacks against fascists.

In a prolonged period of ongoing crises, impoverishment and general class devaluation, the re-emergence of fascists in the public sphere is a reality that we have to face once again. After a brief ‘withdrawal’ from the public sphere as a result of hard-fought battles by the multiform anti-fascist movement and the subsequent State rollback (see the trial of golden down neo-nazis), various far-right and fascist groups are attempting to regroup, to declare their presence on city walls and in the neighbourhoods and take to the streets. A movement that is culminating as we approach the elections. In fact, the recent event of the stabbing of an antifascist comrade after an anti-fascist march in Kallithea, shows an upsurge in their activity that must be relentlessly crushed in its infancy.

The new “Greeks” party of Kasidiaris, number 2 in the hierarchy of the old HA, having rallied a potential that ranges from far-right cadres, adventurers and careerists, to the “traditional” Nazis – remnants of the weakened mother-organization, is attempting to imprint the far right-nationalist swamp electorally and claim its entry into the Parliament, with all that this implies. On the other hand, the government of New Democracy, for electoral reasons, to cut off the leakage to the right and to “cleanse” itself of its own far-right policies and cadres, is choosing to pass a law to block the entry of Kasidiaris’ party in the upcoming elections.

Athens, Greece: INCENDIARY ATTACK ON THE HOUSE OF RETIRED COPS by Andreas Baader Cell

Athens: INCENDIARY ATTACK ON THE HOUSE OF RETIRED COPS.

We take responsibility for the incendiary attack on the house of retired cop Fotis Theodoros in Kaisariani Aarea, at 5 Manoliassas Street. We were very pleased to learn in the days that followed that a second retired cop lived in the same building.

The reason for this attack was the State murder of Kostas Fragoulis by the uniformed garbage of the DIAS cops team. Once again, the agents of the State apparatus murder in cold blood, but this time, as last year with Nikos Sabanis, race became the main issue in the political and social arena. As anarchists we do not need to analyse our position, it is clear. But we ought to recall that this is not a random incident but a manifestation of the wider war that is being waged doggedly by the State and capitalism against the oppressed of this world and especially against those who dare to question their sovereignty. We are taking a stand in this war and declare that we will walk through your homes and over your dead bodies.

It is not fitting for the flame of a candle to be lit over a young grave, whole States should be in flames. C.C.F. (for the murder of A. Grigoropoulos)

LITTLE TURTLE CARRIES THE WORLD FEBRUARY 2023

Weelaunee – the Zone to Defend

LITTLE TURTLE CARRIES THE WORLD

01 THE OUTSIDE

None of us wanted to wake up on January 18th to the news that a forest defender in Atlanta’s Weelaunee Forest named Tortuguita, known to the Law and its death system as Manuel Teran, had been murdered by police during a morning raid. It was the last thing that we wanted to hear. Tears came to my eyes while reading the news of their killing before their name and picture had been released, and later after seeing an image of them glowing, smiling, luminously full of life I thought of how much more devastated I would feel if I had known Tortuguita, if I had heard their voice, felt the warmth of their presence, knew them as a friend, as a fellow anarchist and a comrade, how utterly broken my heart would be if they were my child, if I had raised them lovingly and spoke to them almost every day on the phone, as their mother Belkis had.

The deeply symbolic nature of Tort’s murder by some trigger-happy cops also immediately struck me, containing a cosmological metaphor illustrating the meaning of our times – a young forest defender named Little Turtle, by all accounts a gentle and dignified soul who took their name to honor the celebrated indigenous Miami warrior who lead a confederacy of Native fighters to victory against the US Army in 1791, born while the Sun passed through the astrological sign Taurus, which is believed by some to be the sign most deeply associated with our home planet, Earth, is shot down in cold blood for blocking the construction of a hated police training facility and defending the land of this continent which is said by many Native peoples to be carried on the back of a turtle through the universe. Turtle Island. Time and the meaning it contains sometimes flows like a river, sometimes encircles us like the tides of an infinite sea, and sometimes it connects us like the web of an invisible spider, the strands of which, when plucked like the strings of a harp, create transcendent and unforeseen resonances. There are no coincidences.

For those of us aligned with the defense of the Weelaunee Forest the grief quickly turned to anger, burning rage, vast and terrible like the black hole said to be at the center of our spinning galaxy. The call went out – they would have wanted fierce and direct action against those responsible. In addition to an unknown number of beautiful public and private memorial rituals in the weeks since then, there has also been a massive wave of rituals of another kind: attacks and acts of sabotage against police infrastructure as well as contractors working with and financial institutions funding Cop City – the forces working to bring their hellish and widely hated training facility into our world. Images and stories of the riot which followed Tort’s murder in Atlanta and the damaged facade of the Atlanta Police Foundation girded our spirits, the widely broadcast picture of a burning police SUV serving as a fitting memorial to the fallen comrade.

London,UK : Vandalism at the Italian Cultural Center in London in Solidarity with anarchist Alfredo Cospito

Vandalism at the Italian Cultural Center in London

It appears that on 24th February, something unfortunate happened to the Italian Cultural Institute in London.

At this sophisticated outpost of the Italian state, guests are invited to enjoy a current series of lectures, from handpicked academic experts, on the great social and political issues of the day, with the ambassador in attendance. The previous week, the audience was treated to a discussion of the energy transition, and next week the theme was to be Justice.

All this makes it so regretable that the building’s romanesque facade, with elegant white columns and heavy wooden door, seems to have been soaked in paint by some vandal[s] clearly without the capacity to appreciate such things.

Italy : To the comrades

To the comrades

Nothing will ever be the same as before

We receive these words, which we make our own:

They decided to kill Alfredo with the coldness of executioners. Democracy is simply this: inquests, media spectacles, death sentences.

If all this had passed in silence or in the ruthless dehumanized staging of the opinion makers of the day, it would have been grave and unforgivable. But that was not what happened. In all these months, and well before, the molecules of this heterogeneous anarchist body have never stopped, despite the weight that was already bearing down on many of them. But that’s the way of things.

These seconds and minutes following the death sentence passed by the Supreme Court against Alfredo are interminable. But pain is different from surprise. We feel pain now, tremendous pain. But not surprise. And the pain that permeates our every cell is piercing, total.

Total pain.

Who can now feel that tomorrow will be a day they could already have imagined? For months we have been sounding out hypotheses, scenarios, possibilities, but who really had a clear idea of what they would feel?

Nothing will ever be the same again.

In the face of all this, the silence created by such raw clarity almost clouds the mind, overwhelms everything. It is right that we shed tears, it is human that we clench each other and take time to let go of the tension that has been mounting for months.

We need time for the pain because, if nothing will ever be the same again, tomorrow’s lucidity will have to be greater than yesterday’s.
