Pola Roupa:They want to put me back in prison

On December 13th, almost one month after my release, I have been notified of an appeal by the deputy prosecutor of the court of Appeal of Euboea against the decision to suspend me, asking me to return to prison.  In their appeal, they are asking for the “disappearance” of the verdict of the district court of Thebes that released me from prison.  This is a political move, dictated by the evident political discontent that my liberation has aroused in some power centres.

Based on the logic of this appeal, the arguments and the “evidence” it cites, it goes without saying that no prosecutor would have dealt with it if it had concerned any other prisoner. For example, in his appeal the deputy prosecutor of the court of Appeal of Euboea “criticises”  the “methodology” followed by the council of the district court of Thebes, namely the fact that I was not personally summoned to the council when it was considering my request for a conditional acquittal, while thousands of women have been released from Eleonas prison before me using exactly the same methodology and no prosecutor has ever dealt with any of them.

UK: Letter from anarchist prisoner Toby Shone for comrade Alfredo M. Bonanno

Farewell, Alfredo

I heard today by telephone as the morning winter sun shone through grey clouds into the confines of my cell that our comrade Alfredo Bonanno passed away during sleep surrounded by the love of his close ones. I too send my incendiary embrace to all those who feel his loss and assert that a combative memory will remain.

Alfredo’s contributions to the anarchist movement are undeniable, critical, insightful, and prescient. One of Alfredo’s texts, ‘What are Anarchists?‘ had appeared in an investigation file against me for which I was accused of distributing. His booklet published under the title ‘Locked Up‘ by Elephant Editions is one of the most important documents on the topic of imprisonment in my opinion.

Alfredo M. Bonanno :July 1999 in Athens: i am here in this courtroom alongside my comrade Nikos Maziotis.

July 1999 Athens

Gentlemen,

I am here in this courtroom alongside my comrade Nikos Maziotis. Both irreducible enemies of the State, both anarchists.

Looking around the world today, the State order dominates almost everywhere and its order is that of death and destruction. The recent events of the war in Serbia and Kosovo testify to this perfectly. Whatever the State does, even when it tries to hide behind a humanitarian façade, it results in death and destruction.

But the State is not an abstraction, it is not an empty word, but a very concrete thing. The State is constituted of men and things, by capital that realizes exploitation, which keeps millions of people under its control in order to secure profits on investment, an immense administrative and military apparatus that governs, manages and kills on a daily basis.

Greece: For Comrade Alfredo Bonanno from Nikos Maziotis, Member of Revolutionary Struggle

Comrade Alfredo M. Bonanno has passed away at the age of 86. He lived a whole life in the world of struggle and anarchy. He was one of the main representatives of the insurrectionary tendency of the Italian anarchist movement with a great theoretical contribution and editorial work. He was editor of the magazine Anarchismo and other anarchist publications. For his activities he was repeatedly persecuted and imprisoned by the Italian state together with other comrades in the 1990s, e.g. for the O.R.A.I. case (in 1996), the armed expropriation of the Serravalle Rural Savings Bank in the Trento area* in 1994 and other attacks.

He had come to Greece several times. The first time I met him was in January 1993 when he visited me in the military hospital 424 in Thessaloniki after 50 days of a hunger strike I had carried out. I had just been released from being a prisoner in the Thessaloniki military prison for refusing to serve my military service. In 1999 he had also come to Greece and had testified as a political witness for the defence in my trial for the bombing of the Ministry of Development in December 1997 as an act of solidarity with the then dynamic struggle of the villagers of the Strymonikos Gulf villages in North Greece – Halkidiki (Olympiada, Varvara, Stavros, Asprovalta) against the installation of the Canadian multinational gold company TVX GOLD, which has been succeeded today by Hellas Gold, a subsidiary of Eldorado Gold.

Let‘s give weight to the words

Foreword by Stecco from

„I giorni e le notti.

#8, Anarchist Magazine – October 2018“:

„This text is about the concept of responsibility between individuals and communities, between comrades, in relation to the world as we want it. As in other recent texts circulating in the anarchist movement, there is a common sentiment of trying to illuminate principles, methods and dreams that strengthen and improve our actions as anarchists. I do not claim to be exbaustive on such a complex issue that touches on delicate aspects. Responsibility can be seen from different angles and I am sure that I will not be able to see them all. I will therefore concentrate on the points that seem to me to be the most urgent, and consider this text as a stimulus for reflection among the Companions. It is a text in which I do not intend to give an outline.

My aim is to make a contribution, a wealth of reflections that stimulate me precisely on this delicate subject.“

Dealing with the issue of responsibility today means, above all, dealing with the doctrine of irresponsibility that has been organising this society for some time. By irresponsibility, I mean the goal set by the state, by those in power, and also by science, of driving the exploited to ever greater inattention to the various social problems that afflict the whole of humanity. A never-ending task, so that people stop caring about the impending and imminent social changes. So that they stop thinking more and more. So that they believe that it is not possible  to  live  and  organise life without this social structure. In short, responsibility is to be passed on to others, and nowadays more than ever to some kind of technician. Of course, this development also affects interpersonal relations in all their facets.

A Communique on Sabotaging Zionist Infrastructure: Shutting Down Friends of the IDF -Water Main Cemented

For Palestine.

To rebels everywhere.

With deepest love and ancestral rage,

We gathered with heavy hearts and humble hands holding a promise for a world safer from white supremacist, settler-colonial violence. Those who declare war on original peoples and pillage sacred life and land will face retribution. There has been a great fire building, may it overflow and take all enemies of life with it. May it create fertile grounds for victory against violent occupiers.

We took it upon ourselves to make sure these fascists could not gather. Rather than the constant reactivity and rigidness of mass protest spectacles, we wanted to hit them where it fucking hurts.

On November 5th, the Zionist fascist scum, “Friends of the IDF,” who represent the interests of wealthy American capitalists in their direct support of the settler colonial state of Israel and its continued campaign of genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people, attempted to hold a fundraiser gala at Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California.

Alfredo M. Bonanno zemřel, ať žije anarchie!
7thDec. × ’23

Dne 6. prosince 2023, ve věku 86 let, zemřel dlouholetý anarchista Alfredo Maria Bonanno. Prožil neuvěřitelný život a ještě před 14 lety, ve svých 72 letech, čelil obvinění z vyloupení banky. Mimo jiné napsal knihu “Ozbrojená radost“, kterou soudce nařídil zakázat a spálit všechny její výtisky.

Anarchist comrade Alfredo M. Bonanno has died on 6th December at the age of 86

You will always be alive with us through our action and our lives. “ACTION REPLACES TEARS”

Alfredo Maria Bonanno, born in 1937 in Catania, Sicily, is one of the most prolific contemporary anarchists, responsible for Anarchismo editions and other publishing ventures. In 1977 he was sentenced to 18 months in prison for his book La Gioia Armata (Armed Joy). This book had been published at a historical moment when the Italian revolutionary movement was openly going on the offensive, while similar conditions existed in other European countries (Germany, Spain, England, Greece, Chile and more) and the question of violence was on the daily agenda. His contribution lies in a celebration of the pervasive class violence that liberates and satisfies the individual, but at the same time he sounds the alarm about the emergence of the armed party, which reduces the class conflict to a militaristic dimension, imposing the mediation of a small minority of armed men on the complexity of tens of thousands of people struggling by all means against the current reorganization of Capital, which at that moment seemed weak.

In the spirit of the book, all authentic liberating and destructive action comes from a logic of satisfaction in the struggle, not a self-sacrificing duty in accordance with the dictates of a micro-bureaucracy. The Italian Supreme Court ordered the destruction of the copies of the book that were in circulation, and sent a circular to public libraries to dispose of any copies they might have had.

Several librarians objected to this Nazi-inspired tactic. Its circulation was generally banned, and copies were confiscated from the homes of anarchist militants in the context of police raids on houses.

Shortly afterwards, the author was accused of being an “instigator” of the Azione Rivoluzionaria, an armed organisation of 1976-79, which operated on the basis of “affinity groups” throughout central Italy, mainly against newspapers and party offices, and similar “manipulative mechanisms of consensus-building”. In 1979 the organisation was practically dismantled with the arrest of 86 people and the arrest of Salvatore Cinieri and Gianfranco Faina. The first went on to die in prison in a scuffle with criminal inmates when he defended a prisoner suspected of submitting an escape plan, while the second was released to die of lung cancer after being diagnosed with a tumour while in custody.
