On February 7, about 150 people took to the streets in Viterbo for a radical demonstration that showed how it is possible and necessary to link the issues of war and repression: with the resistance of the Palestinian people, against defeatism in Ukraine, against repression as an expression of war policies on the home front, against 41 bis as a war prison, and in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito. During the night between Sunday 15 and Monday 16 February, under cover of darkness, we damaged the headquarters of AXA Insurance in Trento.

AXA derives enormous profits from the ongoing genocide in the occupied territories of Palestine, as it directly invests more than €170 million each year in companies that produce weapons, a large portion of which also deal in white phosphorus and depleted uranium weapons. From October 2022 to April 2023, a strong solidarity movement
accompanied the hunger strike of Alfredo Cospito, an anarchist prisoner in 41-bis, the most afflictive prison regime in the Italian penitentiary system, a regime of extreme harshness and isolation, a tomb where one spends 22 hours in a cell, with hardly any possibility to communicate with the outside world (censorship on all communications and with only a one-hour visit per month with a family member or a ten-minute phone call, also a month).

The railway line near the station of Pesaro was sabotaged at dawn on the 7th of February.

This action was aimed at showing the contradictions of the “spectacle” of the Olympics, in this case the Milano Cortina 26 winter olympics. Among the various official partners of these games are companies such as Leonardo, Eni, Gruppo FS, which collaborate and speculate on wars and the devastation of the planet in the name of ferocious capitalist progress.

Interrupt the flow, rediscover the world

What happened between late September and early October was, in some ways, a perfect storm. The call launched by the dockworkers of Genoa (and taken up in the ports of Ravenna, Livorno, Salerno, Marghera, Trieste, Naples…) to “block everything”, on the occasion of the Sumud Flotilla’s attempt to break the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza, saw millions of people take to the streets with the idea of participating in a concrete effort against the genocide. The ambivalence on board was reflected in the streets – internationalist solidarity versus humanitarianism, direct action versus representation, breaking the law versus constituent proposals, rejection of delegation versus mediatisation, mutual recognition among the exploited versus interclassism – and did not allow any easy or immediate interpretations. These were “spurious”, “opaque” uprisings – as political analysts have been saying since the Forconi, the Trattori, and the No Green Pass protests[1] – whose simultaneity and numbers put the government in a difficult position, while various components of the more or less institutional left attempted to secure a space for political representation[2].

Update on the repressive situation of Gabriel Pombo da Silva (Italy-Spain)

The latest update on the repressive situation in Italy involving Gabriel Pombo da Silva is as follows:

In July 2022, the Italian trial related to the repressive operation “Scripta Manent” concluded for Gabriel Pombo da Silva and other comrades. He received a two-year sentence for “incitement to commit a crime.”

In December 2023, the Turin court notified Gabriel of the same final sentence. In January 2024, Gabriel’s Italian lawyer requested alternative measures to imprisonment. This request was justified by a “social/family/work investigation” carried out by a social worker from the Turin surveillance court. The report, submitted to the supervisory judge in June 2025, emphasized Gabriel’s “lack of self-criticism of his own values,” revealing the Italian authorities’ intention for revenge. On 30 /09 a hearing of the trial against anarchist comrade Juan Sorroche, accusing him of attack with aims of terrorism for the revolutionary action at the Polgai of Brescia, is due to take place in the court of Brescia. Juan will be reading out a declaration on this occasion.

Already sentenced for three other accusations, including an attack on premises of the League in Treviso and another against the Surveillance Court in Trento, he presently finds himself doing a definitive sentence of 28 years, with two more trials still ongoing, that of Brescia and a more recent one for 270 bis notified by the prosecutor’s office of Trento. A CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY: NO COMRADE WILL BE LEFT ALONE IN THE HANDS OF REPRESSION! (Italy)

Alfredo Cospito is an anarchist comrade jailed since 2012, initially arrested and sentenced (along with another comrade) for kneecapping the CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare. He has served his sentence for that crime (the other comrade is now free), but he is currently serving a 23-year sentence issued in the “Scripta Manent” trial. This was a repressive operation against 20 years of FAI/FRI actions. Comrade Anna Beniamino is also serving a 17-year sentence for this repressive operation.

In May 2022, he was placed in 41 bis, a “harsh prison” regime invented in the ’90s to psychologically annihilate mafia “chiefs” and force them to cooperate. It is now extended to over 700 prisoners, including members of revolutionary groups such as BR-PCC. In October 2022, Alfredo began a six-month hunger strike against the 41-bis regime and life sentences without parole, his likely fate according to the terrorism and political massacre charges (and the prosecutor’s request), which essentially amounts to a death sentence while alive. He chose to risk his life because fighting until his last breath was worth it rather than being sentenced to the “tomb of the living,” which is precisely 41 bis.
