Brief update on Zac

Following a request signed by the police commissioner of Naples Maurizio Agricola, the Naples supervisory court has ordered special surveillance to be applied for two years and six months with the following restrictions for Zac: not leave the house without prior warning to the supervisory authority, not leave before 7 am and not return after 8pm, not associate “habitually” with persons who have been sentenced or are under preventive or security measures, not have access to public facilities and public entertainment, to live honestly in respect of the law, not possess or carry weapons, to look for a job, not participate in public meetings, always carry a residence card, show up at the supervisory authority every Sunday or, in any case, on any invitation.  Added to this a deposit of 3000.00 euro to be paid as guarantee, but divided into five convenient instalments.

Recourse has been made. The measure will be carried out as soon as Zac gets out of prison, regardless of the outcome of the trial for 280 bis and 270 quinques, which meanwhile continues with scheduled hearings from now until the end of February (9th January, 31st January, 12th February and 21st February).  More in-depth updates and reflections to follow.

AGAINST THE STATE THAT REPRESSES AND MAKES WAR …

IT IS NECESSARY TO RADICALISE ONESELF

In solidarity with Zac, to all the prisoners and oppressed of the earth

“Radicalisation” in the common use made of this term by the State, by schools and by the law is now synonymous with “madness”, “dangerousness”, “blind fanaticism”, that the world of the media or of television represents with screaming people, praising a god, prey to delìri or people with the vitreous look that from behind bars idolize a leader or an ideology.

But the meaning of radical is quite different, deep like the roots of a tree clinging to earthly slums.

Radicalising ourselves, which first of all means succeeding in gaining a wider consciousness about things, has remained our only window of opportunity in a world that has taken away all or almost all we have and in the face of a State that now has the power to say quite the opposite of reality as if nothing had happened.

For example, at a time when the extreme pinnacle of western colonialist barbarism is taking place with the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the genocide of the Palestinian people, the minister Piantedosi has the gall to calmly assert on all television networks that at this moment the right of the State of Israel to exist is under attack and that Italy must defend this right.

Still, on a smaller scale, while starving and ravaging the territories of southern Italy, it criminalizes 14-year-old boys from poor neighbourhoods that do not go to school and do illegal work to help support their families. And finally, while it stains itself with the worst massacres in the sea, in the prisons, in the wars which it takes part in, it accuses anarchists of slaughter.

Repression of conscience, repression on a large scale

The latest repressive changes are increasingly aimed at preventing the possibility that we can become aware of the causes and the people responsible for their malaise; they aim to scare with exemplary or dissuasive sentences those who, becoming aware, act and fight against the State and the bosses; they aim, finally, to represent as a fanatic those who persevere in their hostility to the state of things.

Thus, contacts between the imprisoned population (mostly proletarians and migrants) and the outside are prevented where they carry support for acts of rebellion, critical and radical thinking, information. In fact, if every speech with the megaphone, leaflet or pamphlet was punished as incitement to crime before, now with the new security package they would like to introduce a specific crime of revolt for those who rebel inside the walls and the corresponding crime of incitement to revolt for those who from outside address written material to prisoners.

Thus, outside in society, while schools and universities are spreading and funding projects of “prevention of radicalisation” among students, held by law enforcement and imprisoning magistrates, so with the Caivano decree for the young boys of the neighbourhoods and suburbs, represented as dangerous nuclei of organized violence in the teenage version, the solution is prison or punitive isolation inside the home.

With the decrees being passed at the end of the year, who out of need for a roof over their head, expelled by hordes of American or North European tourists conquering the historic centre with bnb and ‘rbnb, occupies an appartment or house will be more harshly punished, unless they decide to cooperate at the time of eviction, For the unemployed and workers who take to the streets against the exploitation of the bosses and lack of wages, higher penalties are foreseen for road blocks. In this way, all forms of conflict are being extinguished.

Finally (let’s say!) who continues to defend their practices and thinking against the State is a ‘terrorist’, of which the equation anarchist/ radical = terrorist is only the apex, in an  already very advanced repressive system for anyone acting according to conscience.

The usual anarchists. Who should be interested in the affairs of these terrorists?

If we have settled on the idea that anyway anti-mafia repression concerns the “mafia” and that of the antiterrorism concerns anarchists and jihadists, we are lost for two reasons.

The first is that it would mean that by trusting the State and the meanings and labels it gives to people, ideas and actions, the total delegation of ourselves has been accomplished.

The second is that if the repression of conflictual minorities does not become the interest of all, the State will have an ever easier game in extending repression to even less conflictual practices and realities, as well as to every aspect of everyone’s life, from earning one’s bread illegally to defending oneself from an eviction and so on. And to those who think that the preventive calculation of how to avoid repression can serve to exclude it, perhaps the answer is that this is only useful to the retreat of struggles.

Taking a closer look.

The equation anarchists/terrorists has origins that go back in time, but only in the last 3 post-pandemic years has it come about for the first time in history to condemn anarchists for “political massacre” and association with terrorist aims, to put the first anarchist in 41bis, to accuse a comrade of self-training for the first time, a crime introduced by the legislation against so-called islamic terrorism. Anti-anarchist inquests follow one after the other for every action or word expressed in solidarity to prisoners all over the world, the judgment of being socially dangerous towards the whole population (in spite of it being personalities and structures of the State with precise responsibilities that are struck) and repression on a preventive basis, i.e. before any offensive action has materialised, has become the norm. Based on the militant “curriculum”, the anarchist militant is catalogued according to a profile more similar to mafia bosses or suicide bombers. The time will come when simply saying “anarchist” will be sufficient in society to say “dangerous”, which with the censorship in place to the anarchist press is already happening.

In solidarity with Zac on trial, against prisons

They arrest the anarchist comrade Zac, while Alfredo was still on hunger strike against life imprisonment and 41bis. They accuse him with charges of attack with terrorist aims and selftraining, of having thrown a device outside the Greek consulate in 2021, which the accusatory theorem would link to the campaign in solidarity with Dimitris Koufoundinas, at the time a prisoner on hunger strike in the Greek prisons. Given that the State gives us the occasion with this trial, we recall that Koufoundinas’s hunger strike in the Greek prisons was his struggle against an epochal penitentiary reform in Greece, that would establish maximum security for political prisoners. And let us also remember that this happened while the Greek State was establishing the police inside the universities to repress the first breaths, every sign of rebellion in a situation of widespread unrest against prison and educational reforms, and in the context of the social and political repression resulting from the lockdown and other anti-pandemic measures. The next year the epochal turn reached Italy, when Alfredo is put in 41bis, where still today, a year and a half after a hunger strike with which he risked his life, he finds himself locked up. Concerning Zac, he is accused, for the first time in the history of anti-anarchist repression, of the crime of self-training, art. 270-quinquies c.p. which is part of the regulatory framework of the Pisanu decree of 2005, then modified in 2015, in the framework of so-called islamic antiterrorism legislation, introduced after September 11th and the subsequent  attacks of islamic matrix in London and Madrid. This charge must have been useful to strike those who are defined simplistically and opportunistically “lone wolves”, who radicalise themselves alone, to have in short new tools to strike every “terrorist” without having recourse to the associative system. Until now this charge has only been used concerning so-called islamic terrorists, people who ended up in jail just for writing a post on facebook. In the upcoming safety decrees, it is planned to include the offence of “possession of material with aims of terrorism”: in simple terms, the same material read by any person and read by an anarchist, becomes a crime in the second case. Will willy the coyote (cartoon) watched by an anarchist, succeed in escaping from aims of terrorism?

These considerations only reinforce what has already been seen so far with all the latest operations, namely that the main reason to for trying and locking up this comrade is the fact that he is anarchist; it is the solidarity to the prisoners who were protesting in the prisons in 2020, while the State was murdering them, carrying out a massacre of 14 people, and to Alfredo, while he was on hunger strike for over 6 months against 41bis. If they accuse him of solidarity with the prisoners in struggle against the powerful of the world,  we can only find ourselves alongside him even more at.
