“It’s better to make a disorder…”.
The small town of Pößneck, some thirty kilometers south of the city of Jena (in the Thuringia region), is not known for its mischief, to say the least.
Unlike its little sister, Jena’s walls have, over the centuries, endured the fury of peasant rebels who, between 1524 and 1526, destroyed and pillaged hundreds of castles and religious buildings in the Holy Roman Empire. This insurrection, dubbed the “Uprising of the Common Man” (Erhebung des gemeinen Mannes) or more simply the “Peasants’ War” following Engels’ study, even aroused the ire of the Pope of Protestantism, Martin Luther, who advised the nobility to slaughter the 300,000 insurgent beggars to the last man. In his pamphlet entitled Contre les hordes de paysans voleurs et assassins (May 1525) (Against the hordes of thieving, murderous peasants), Luther wrote: “Let all who can, strike, kill and stab, secretly or openly, remembering that there is nothing more poisonous, harmful or diabolical than a rebel. It’s like when you have to kill a rabid dog: if you don’t hit it, it will hit you, and a whole country with you.”
But today, the good city of Jena is best known in the textbooks of domination as having been one of the cradles of German Romanticism, whose university saw Goethe and prestigious teachers such as Fichte, Schiller and Hegel pass through, not to mention a famous student, Karl Marx, who completed his doctorate in philosophy there in 1841. A little later, it was also here that Ernst Haeckel, patent eugenicist and inventor of the term “ecology” in 1866 (the anarchist Elisée Reclus preferred the term “mesology”), made his career. However, it would be a pity to remain in the academic sky of bourgeois ideas in 19th-century Jena, without mentioning another, lesser-known revolt that brought the city down to earth.

On Sunday, May 5th, five incendiary devices were placed at the Northvolt construction site in Quebec. This action was taken to damage machinery and reduce the project’s ability to continue. Unfortunately, these devices failed to ignite. If there is one takeaway to share, when choosing materials consider how weather (high humidity or rain) might decrease the chances of a device igniting. The longer the timer, the longer the device will be exposed to environmental factors thereby decreasing the window of success.
Why choosing to attack and damage property? While Northvolt, a transnational corporation, sells themselves as the leader of the green transition, they are in fact its headstone. The electric vehicles the company plans to provide with their batteries are a false solution to the environmental destruction caused by industrial society; rather this expension of the automotive industry is only allowing the devastating impact of car infrastructure to continue. With this project, Canada’s insatiable appetite for natural resources will only grow. Lithium mining, which is essential in the process of producing Northvolt’s “green” Lithium Ion batteries, is poisoning human communities and entire ecosystems across the land. Lithium is already being extracted from unceded Indigenous territories here in “Quebec”, with many new mines planning to start operating in the next few years. With this kind of mega project, lakes, forests and wetlands will disappear under new roads and pit mines.

Shortly after 11 p.m., they were disturbed by the sound of an explosion. “There was a fire in the middle of the road,” says one resident. While the fire lasted for many minutes and gave off thick smoke, this witness later discovered that the fire had been started on a pile of electronic equipment.
“My first reaction was to think that someone had set fire to a box of fireworks”, confides the man who called the local council the following morning. On the contrary, it was a number of geophones currently being used as part of a geophysical measurement campaign in the valley.

World Energy GH2 equipment vandalized in Mainland

Someone recently damaged World Energy GH2 facilities in southwestern Newfoundland. The damage amounts to more than $5,000, and took place on February 21 or 22 in Mainland, at a location where World Energy GH2 collects weather data, says the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which is investigating the incident. The vandals targeted solar panels, the windows of a small building and equipment.
In a similar incident in January 2023, someone had already damaged the company’s heavy equipment. World Energy GH2 intends to build around 150 200-metre-high wind turbines on the Port-au-Port peninsula, west of Stephenville. The consortium is also studying the possibility of building a wind farm of roughly the same size in the Codroy Valley to the south.
[On the night of March 14/15 in Berlin, at around 3:50 a.m., six concrete trucks were completely destroyed and three other machines (excavators) damaged by flames on the A100 freeway construction site in Kiefholzstrasse. The concrete mixers belonged to the German HeidelbergMaterials group, the world’s second-largest cement producer. On December 27, 2023, the site of another concrete giant, CEMEX, was attacked in Berlin, setting fire to five concrete mixer trucks, the bulk material conveyor belt and a technical building near the silos. And on January 19, 2024, two excavators on the same Berlin A100 freeway site had already been consumed by the flames of anger.

On the early morning of March 14th, we torched eight pieces of heavy construction machinery belonging to the Brent Scarbrough company (the contractor that is presently clearcutting the Weelaunee forest) at a site on Jonesboro Road in Henry County, Georgia.
We hope everyone on their morning commute enjoyed the show. Despite the blaze being visible from a major road, what appears to be one of the most quantitatively effective attacks on the company’s equipment so far remains unreported in the media at the time of submission.

Berlin: news from Tesla and a second communique from the Volcano Group
A week after a high-voltage power line tower in Berlin caught fire at dawn on March 5, deliberately bringing Tesla’s European electric vehicle production plant to a standstill, the plant was only reconnected to the power grid on March 11. And two days later, on Wednesday March 13, it was finally able to start up again in the presence of its CEO Elon Musk, who came to Berlin-Grünheide to be cheered by his brave workers, before meeting local politicians. A vast emergency worksite was therefore immediately deployed in the field where the burnt-out pylon was located. Firstly, to build a temporary access road from the adjacent forest in order to transport heavy machinery, then to dig out from under the muddy earth some of the cables linking this pylon to the Erkner transformer station, and finally to gradually install a structure parallel to the damaged steel giant after draining the soil beneath its feet. All this in an area that is now entirely fenced off, with work being carried out at breakneck speed in 3×8 shifts (day and night), under constant police protection backed up by private security guards.

On Tuesday morning I burned three large machines at an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) construction site in Portland. They were destroying the forest hillside on the south side of the st. johns bridge to protect highway infrastructure.
ODOT construction sites, and highway construction in general, often leave expensive (and highly flammable!) specialized equipment unattended and unsecured overnight, making them easy targets. ODOT is planning major highway expansion in the Portland area over the next few years, despite long campaigns by Youth vs ODOT and other environmentalist groups. Acting through the political system is a futile and insufficient response to the current crisis, as capitalism must continue its endless growth no matter how bad things get. The highway system can only expand if we allow it to. With some creativity, courage, and determination, capital is far more vulnerable than it would have you believe.

Two excavators set on fire in Marseille!
During the week of February 12, in the Cayolle district of Marseille, the carcasses of two burnt-out excavators appeared on a building site. They had been eating away at the hillside for several weeks in order to build a new street to extend the city.
So the site was at a standstill for some time!
