7th May : Nationwide Outages Due to Fire at Almere Data Center

The fire broke out at 8:45 a.m. in the data center’s technical room, says Director Alexandra Schless. The NorthC Data Center houses servers on which national and international clients can store their IT environments.

Multiple Organizations Affected

The fire at the data center caused many websites and other services to go down. Because the power has been shut off, organizations whose platforms are hosted in Almere cannot use their systems. Among others, Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the transportation company TransDev, and Utrecht University are affected. The university, which has faced severe protests in the last years due to it’s ties with israel, took ten whole days to get its systems back up and running…

Cause of the fire

The cause of the fire is not yet known. According to the data center, the investigation has not yet been completed.
