Leipzig, Germany: A Vonovia car set on fire

During the night of Saturday to Sunday [3rd January 2026], we set fire to a van of the housing rental company Vonovia in south Leipzig using delayed action incendiary device,s leading to the vehicle’s total destruction according to the press.

Vonovia, the biggest flat-letting company in Germany is systematically causing real estate inflation and displacement [of the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods subjected to gentrification] in our town : its subsidiaries carry out luxury renovations, rent and charges are going up and affordable housing is disappearing. While the cost of housing of workers, pensioners, students and families is becoming impossible Vonovia continues to make record profits – 984 million euros before taxation for the first half of 2025 alone. This is not an error, it is an economic model: accommodation is being transformed into a source of profit. Vonovia wants to extract maximum gain from tenants’ housing needs.
We cannot hope for a politic of calm through rent controls or a decrease in costs for tenants. Action against those responsible for displacement must be self-organised. Vonovia must feel, in different places, that they are not welcome and that their company so hostile to tenants won’t be accepted without consequences. If we put enough pressure on them at various levels, we can put limits on them in the medium term.

We deeply regret that a car with nothing to do with this was slightly damaged by our incendiary device, and wish to apologise.

We want a town for everyone, not just for the rich!

An affordable dwelling is a fundamental right!

Direct attacks against Vonovia and the other companies promoting gentrification are still necessary! This van was chosen by chance – in Leipzig, there are many more Vonovia vehicles awaiting our visits 😉

Greetings in solidarity with the brave squatters of the Leipzig AbeTa!

Militant tenants’ protection.
