EXARCHEIA ALWAYS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF PALESTINE TO FREEDOM
Always on the right side of history, on the side of social struggles, class solidarity, internationalism, on the side of the workers, the immigrants, the excluded, the fighters. Also yesterday Exarcheia shouted what has been one of its components of their political identity for decades: their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their Resistance. Both for the movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people, and for the movement to defend Exarcheia from the encroachment of capital and the State, yesterday’s demonstration, called by the Assembly of Solidarity with the Palestinian Resistance, was undoubtedly important. The first was grounded – even more deeply – with Exarcheia, the second was coordinated – even more – with the solidarity movements in Palestine, a composition that politically strengthens both and can and must continue.
The demonstration started at 8, after an hour’s gathering at the intersection of Kallidromiou st. with Emm. Benaki st., where a microphone was set up from which texts in Arabic and Greek were read, while Palestinian music was played. Filled with emotion, consciousness and love for Exarcheia and for Palestine and with mass participation with a strong Palestinian element, the demonstration marched through the streets of Exarcheia, passed through the occupied Square, preventing with its pulse and determination the lurking forces of repression from attempting to block her, to end at Alexis’s monument in a climate of competitive elevation.
Until next time… FREEDOM TO PALESTINE, VICTORY FOR THE INTIFADA, EXARCHIA ALWAYS ON THE RIGHT SIDE WITH PALESTINE AS FREEDOM
(The following is an excerpt from yesterday’s call)
[…] In the Exarcheia of internationalism and class solidarity, in the Exarcheia of social self-organization, struggles and rebellion, solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people has been timeless. From the dozens of solidarity demonstrations in the Square over the years, in the Circle, in the hangouts, squats, political spaces, and from the streets of conflicts and street battles – where in the 1980s and 1990s the Palestinian headscarf and cry ” intifada” became symbols of an entire metropolitan generation – Exarcheia, as a modern laboratory of radical forms, socialization, struggle and culture, has never stopped sending a strong message of solidarity to the Palestinian people, synthesizing in that unique way that Exarcheia can, with different policies. And against the genocidal war that Israel with its imperialist allies (USA-EU), but also the cooperating Greek state have unleashed against it.
Much more so when Israeli capital with its extensive investments in Exarcheia plays a key role in the attempted gentrification of the neighbourhood and its transformation into a bad taste amusement park of cheap disciplined labour, sterile of its historical, class and political contexts.
On Friday March the 1st, a day after the massacre of hundreds of civilians who had gathered to get food aid in Gaza city, and while the “final solution for Gaza” according to Israel’s chilling terminology, is at hand with the attack on the city of Rafa, at the same time as the Greek state is taking a double stance with the murderers, simultaneously escalating its own attack on the neighbourhood but also on the entire social base, workers, youth, immigrants, we demonstrate mass and fighters in Exarcheia with the slogan that the neighbourhood has shouted throughout time:
“SOLIDARITY IS THE PEOPLE’S WEAPON”, “VICTORY TO THE INTIFADA”, “THERE IS NO PEACE WITHOUT JUSTICE”
