[From Greece] Update about the the special “state of exception” for the anarchist Nikos Maziotis, convicted comrade of Revolutionary Struggle

We would like to send you some news about the imprisonment of anarchist comrade Nikos Maziotis -who is in Domokos prison for his actions in Revolutionary Struggle- and the special “state of exception” for him.

as a summary:

The Lamia Misdemeanors Court Council recently rejected the comrade’s request for conditional release. This is the sixth time his request has been rejected (five rejections by the first-instance council and one by an appellate court where he appealed only once). Three of the six requests Nikos Maziotis has submitted for his release were rejected by a council presided over by the same judge. And in all three instances, his request was accompanied by three consecutive positive prosecutorial recommendations.

With the recent conditional release of the Nazi Michaloliakos, the above was proven once again. According to journalistic, legal, and judicial circles, this decision was signed by Christina Papagianni as president of the Lamia Misdemeanors Court Council. Thus, with the decision No. 121/30.4.2024, the specific one was released, while his first release request was accompanied by a negative prosecutorial recommendation. From the very beginning, there was not only political cover but also a concerted and coordinated effort by state (and judicial) authorities to keep the name of the council president who released the Nazi. This attempted cover-up did not succeed. The president’s name was immediately revealed through leaks from journalistic (and not only) offices. And despite the fact that the Nazi is now back in prison (after an appeal was filed against his release by an appellate prosecutor), the selectively biased stance of far-right elements within the “justice system” who release Nazis, yet are the same ones like this particular judge who keeps comrade Nikos Maziotis imprisoned, can no longer remain hidden.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that an anarchist book fair will take place from 5 September to 8 September 2024 at NewYorck in Bethanien, Mariannenplatz 2 A, 10997 Berlin-Kreuzberg.

The book fair should not only serve to give anarchist books, ergo anarchist ideas, more space. Above all, we want to intensify debates that must lead to practical action. Books and all written products are important vehicles that can connect us all – yet books themselves are nothing, it is the content they carry that is useful – it is the practice that forms a real movement.

Berlin (Germany): fire to the cell towers of technological progress and militarization

[On the night of Saturday to Sunday, July 7, two cell towers went up in smoke in Berlin. One of them was located in the Tempelhof district, more precisely in the aptly named Attilastraße, where the fire was reported at around 2am. The tower was located on the site of a cell phone operator, and the State Protection Service (Staatsschutz) was in charge of the investigation. Yesterday, cell towers were set on fire at two different locations in Berlin.

This action is a contribution to the struggle against technology, militarization and domination.

In recent years, we have become accustomed to being surrounded by more and more cell towers, which have become part of our environment. These antennae and the cell phone network are essential to enable the digitization of our lives, to realize the Smart City and to develop (military) technology and social control in general.

As we are unfortunately repeatedly confronted with groups that support the Ukrainian side in the war between Russia and the Ukraine from an allegedly “anarchist” position, and as an article appeared in April (When ideology gets in the way of solidarity) in which ABC-Belarus was surprised that we described them as supporters of the war and therefore we did not invite them to the bookfair, here are a few words from us. More than once we have had the dubious pleasure of being involved in discussions with people who call themselves “anarchists” and supporters of the Ukrainian side in the Russian-Ukrainian war, people who are also referred to by some as anarcho-militarists, anarcho-nationalists, NATO anarchists and the like – specifically, we are talking about ABC-Belarus, ABC-Dresden, Operation Solidarity/Solidarity Collective and all groups that support the war – whereby it should be noted that we personally deny that they are anarchists as a matter of course. Among other things, it has been shown that, contrary to their claim to seek debate, they do not do so, but instead skillfully ignore every counter-argument and move deftly at a level that can sometimes be confidently described as populist and statist.

What they are looking for is an approval and anyone who doesn’t give it to them is then accused of Putinism, Westplaining, etc. And even if their arguments have changed over the course of time and certainly also due to the course of the war in the Ukraine, they are still generally repeated again and again. In the following lines, we will address these arguments, as they have been expressed to us and in some cases published, and explain once again why these groups support the war and why we do not consider them as anarchist comrades, despite all the praiseworthy and important work they do and have done in the field of prisoner support.

Υπηρεσίες hacking, όπως η Pegasus, θέτουν τον πλήρη συμβιβασμό των τηλεφώνων σε απόσταση αναπνοής ακόμη και από τις τοπικές αρχές επιβολής του νόμου και είναι “μηδενικό κλικ”, που σημαίνει ότι δεν εξαρτώνται από το αν κάνετε κλικ σε έναν σύνδεσμο ή ανοίξετε ένα αρχείο για να χακάρουν το τηλέφωνό σας. Από την άλλη πλευρά, αφού περισσότεροι από 30 εμπρησμοί σε μια μικρή πόλη της Γαλλίας έμειναν ανεξιχνίαστοι, οι ερευνητές παραπονέθηκαν ότι «είναι αδύνατο να χρησιμοποιηθούν δεδομένα τηλεφώνου ή οχήματος επειδή λειτουργούν χωρίς τηλέφωνα ή αυτοκίνητα!»

Κρυπτογράφηση και γεωεντοπισμός

Σε μια πρόσφατη κατασταλτική επιχείρηση εναντίον ενός αναρχικού, η αστυνομία παρακολούθησε τη γεωγραφική θέση του flip phone του υπόπτου σε πραγματικό χρόνο και έφτιαξε μια λίστα με όλους όσους είχε καλέσει ο ύποπτος. Είναι γνωστό ότι τέτοιες παρακολουθήσεις δεν είναι ασυνήθιστες, και όμως πολλοί σύντροφοι έχουν μαζί τους ένα κινητό τηλέφωνο όπου κι αν πάνε, ή κάνουν μη κρυπτογραφημένες κλήσεις σε άλλους αναρχικούς. Πιστεύουμε ότι και οι δύο αυτές πρακτικές πρέπει να αποφευχθούν. Ας μην κάνουμε τη δουλειά της αστυνομίας και των υπηρεσιών πληροφοριών τόσο εύκολη, παραδίδοντάς τους τα κοινωνικά μας δίκτυα και το ιστορικό γεωγραφικού εντοπισμού σε ασημένιο πιάτο.

Editorial

The second issue of a magazine like this is, for us, a great success. Not only are we pleased, which would be obvious, we are also a little surprised. We were under no illusions, and still do not have any. The list of the problems we found incomprehensible, drawn up in the article “And now?” in Issue One, is still valid, although we have tried to give some answers here. Not that these answers are not satisfactory in themselves, but as we were putting them down other doubts appeared, even more complex and numerous.

On May 27, 2024, a few hours after midnight we took a public transport bus by storm. With a clear target, breaking the monotony of the citizen rythym and illuminating the cold May night in memory of anarchist comrade Mauricio Morales.

15 years ago… one May 22 of 2009, around 1:30am, a blast shook the silent and cold night of the Matta district. The ingenuity that he transported towards the cursed school of the gendarmerie of Chile had detonated early. Punky Mauri, as he was known in anarchist spaces, died instantly in the explosion, merging with the artefact that he had been intended for this horrific institution.

On the night of July 25 to 26, in Saint Orens de Gameville, we set fire to a cell tower and a fiber optic interconnect node, and tagged “No J.O.” on the tower housing the cables.

There is no Olympic truce. The government’s rhetorical bombardment of appeasement through sport, at both geopolitical and parliamentary levels, is accompanied by military bombardment around the world and a war against populations.

What kind of truce, what kind of appeasement are we talking about? The displacement of the most marginalized populations, the increased police presence in the capital, the development of panoptic surveillance in all directions, based on the installation of new video surveillance cameras and the repressive use of artificial intelligence?

Claim of sabotage of TGV lines a few hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

They call it a celebration? We see it as a celebration of nationalism, a gigantic staging of the subjugation of populations by states.

Underneath their friendly, playful guise, the Olympic Games provide a testing ground for police crowd management and the generalized control of our movements.

Like all major sporting events, they are also an opportunity to worship the values that underpin the world of power and money, generalized competition, performance at all costs, sacrifice for the sake of national interest and glory.

The call to identify with an imaginary community and to support the side to which one supposedly belongs is no less harmful than the permanent incitement to see one’s salvation in the health of one’s national economy and the strength of one’s national army.
