Machines burned at highway construction site in NW Portland (usa)

On Tuesday morning I burned three large machines at an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) construction site in Portland. They were destroying the forest hillside on the south side of the st. johns bridge to protect highway infrastructure.

ODOT construction sites, and highway construction in general, often leave expensive (and highly flammable!) specialized equipment unattended and unsecured overnight, making them easy targets. ODOT is planning major highway expansion in the Portland area over the next few years, despite long campaigns by Youth vs ODOT and other environmentalist groups. Acting through the political system is a futile and insufficient response to the current crisis, as capitalism must continue its endless growth no matter how bad things get. The highway system can only expand if we allow it to. With some creativity, courage, and determination, capital is far more vulnerable than it would have you believe.

During the week of February 12, in the Cayolle district of Marseille, the carcasses of two burnt-out excavators appeared on a building site. They had been eating away at the hillside for several weeks in order to build a new street to extend the city.

In support of opponents of the A69, we sabotaged the Toulouse-Narbonne railway line on the night of February 28-29.

The SNCF is following the lead of the neoliberal state, increasingly abandoning the freight system in favor of roads. The aim is always the same: to make money flow into the coffers of private companies (private carriers, private builders and managers). The song is old by now, only the pace has changed a little, and accelerated in recent years. Widespread social misery is just one of the consequences of this song, while the devastation of our land in the name of profit is another.

We’d like to salute the rebels who, in these winter months on the crèm-arbre zad, have tried to resist the steamroller of a mafia-like and childish system with determination. We can only imagine that the few nights spent in these cabins must have been cold and damp. That’s why we’ve tried to pass on a little warmth.

Berlin (Germany): sabotage of a high-voltage pylon brings Tesla factory to a standstill

[At around 5 a.m. on Monday night, March 5, the Volcano group (Vulkangruppe) set fire to a high-voltage pylon near Steinfurt, a district of the village of Gosen-Neu Zittau in Berlin’s south-eastern suburbs, deliberately cutting off power to Tesla’s “Gigafactory”, located some ten kilometers away. The European factory of Elon Musk’s company, inaugurated in 2022 in Berlin-Grünheide, spits out 6,000 electric SUVs a week, the Model Y, hoping to double its capacity to 1 million units a year.

The plant’s 12,500 employees had to be sent home or told to stay there until production could resume. The Tesla Group is already estimating its economic damage at several hundred million dollars, with an assessment that each day without power or production at its Berlin plant is costing it 50 to 60 million euros. Faced with devastation: sabotage and war! As the comrades who have raised and formed part of the campaign have understood it, “Switch Off! The system of destruction” consists of the “attack against companies and infrastructures that feed the ecological catastrophe across the world”. Here also, in Abya Yala (ancestral name for the territory known as America), multiple struggles for the defense of the earth have been developed, from the precolonial peoples who continue fighting, to new anarchic perspectives that tip more and more into the struggle for the earth. While we haven’t been able to stop the ecological catastrophe entirely, we can find concrete examples of territorial victories that have managed to stop, expel or at least considerably push back the materialization of extractivist projects, like the resistance and armed offensive of diverse mapuche organizations in Wallmapu.

The struggles in different latitudes aren’t detached form one another and they aim at the same enemies. This is why we believe it favorable to make the “Switch Off!” campaign our own, endowing it with our own territorial circumstances to avoid overlooking our particularities.

Developing Action Capacity: A Path

“We are not special. Our skills are not overly technical or advanced, and our tools are simple to acquire. If you are reading this, you are capable of doing what we do.”

While I agree with this sentiment, the reader is left with many questions about how to develop such a capacity for action, even if they are motivated. What exactly does it take to not get caught carrying out heavy actions like arson? This is especially important in the long run; not getting caught for a single arson is one thing, but being able to continue carrying out attacks in the face of heightened repressive attention is quite another.

For anyone who wants to carry out actions like this, but isn’t doing so yet, I’ve sketched an outline of the steps I think are necessary to sustain hard-hitting attacks on domination (limited to the topic of “operational” considerations, i.e., acquiring skills). This brief outline is intended to orient you and provide a “learning path” — each step has recommended reading that actually goes into the appropriate amount of depth on the subject. Use the Tails operating system to visit these links, which runs from a USB drive and leaves no trace on your computer. What I’ve written here is by no means definitive, and I hope to spark a dialogue about any operational aspects I may have neglected, as well as anything outside this scope that is important for sustaining and intensifying the capacity for action.

Deepening bonds

For anyone who doesn’t already have an action group, deciding who to act with is the first obstacle to overcome. I prefer to act in groups of two or three; it’s easier to maintain a high level of trust and agility with just a small handful of people. Most actions don’t require more than three participants, and when they do, action groups can collaborate. The Houdeng (La Louvière) customs warehouse on the Garocentre site was the target of a fire on Sunday morning. The Mons public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Monday the criminal origin of the building fire, as reported in the local press, as well as a burglary.

The perpetrators entered through a wire fence. They then broke open the sliding door. The hangar was set on fire. Several customs vehicles inside were found burnt out. Weapons, in particular, were also stolen, added the public prosecutor. It remains to be seen whether these weapons were the result of seizures or were customs property.

Since November 1, when a fire broke out at the Volvon RTE substation in Saint-Bonnet-les-Oules, the Loire department has been facing a new kind of threat. Although the incident caused no immediate harm, the Gendarmerie’s investigation quickly confirmed its criminal nature, as traces of an accelerant were found on site.

Barely three weeks later, on November 20, an extra-high-voltage pylon operated by RTE on the Bessy plateau in Roche-la-Molière was sawed down. As the police took charge of the initial formalities, the event was linked to the fire at the beginning of the month and to another act of mischief in the Puy-de-Dôme region. The Gendarmerie’s research section in Lyon then took charge of the case.

This sabotage is costing users of SNCF’s southeastern rail network dearly. This Monday morning, train traffic was severely disrupted between Marseille and Toulon. Several cables were set on fire between the two stops served by TER trains, momentarily cutting off rail traffic for several hours.

The alarm was sounded at around 5:30 am. A “cable artery” that ensures the smooth running of the rail network had been “set on fire” between La Pomme and Marseille-Blancarde. “It’s not our installations that have caught fire, the fire is deliberate”, explains the SNCF, referring to “an act of malice”. The police also took fingerprints and noted the damage.

Investigators are looking into the cause of several fires at a construction site early Friday morning in southeast Atlanta.

The fire reportedly started around 5 a.m. at what appears to be new townhomes being built in a community called Empire Zephyr.

The equipment pictured is owned by Brent Scarbrough, the contractor for the police training facility, Cop City.
The regional president of Empire Communities, Paul Corely, sits on the board of the APF and the company contributes financially.

Last Monday, the zealous mouthpieces of the Bavarian prefecture were a little disoriented in their reports of the Sunday news. Whereas the first weekend of December had been marked by snowfalls that temporarily blocked rail and air traffic in Munich, the following weekend saw heat spikes that were as sudden as they were unusual. The fires were anything but accidental, and came at the very beginning of winter, putting a number of structures of domination out of action.

Without an image, without a word, and in three different places: in the Forstenrieder forest to the south-west of the city, in the Perlach forest further south, and also right in the middle of Munich, under a bridge spanning the Isar river. In the first two cases which were a bit more rural, as one major regional newspaper put it, “it would be a huge coincidence if two heavy, bulky and expensive forestry machines far apart from each other were to catch fire at the same time due to technical faults”. In each case, it was a tree feller – a machine costing 500,000 euros apiece to cut, delimb and chop down trees in no time at all – that went up in flames under the stars.

On the night of January 18 to 19, 2024, we neutralized 2 excavators on the 16th section of the A100 (Kiefholzstraße – Treptow) with time-delay incendiary devices. Numerous needle punctures like this can eventually bring down the system. It’s also a cheerful response to the Switch-Off call, which is now finding an energetic echo internationally.

Sabotage is a direct tool for stopping the projects of the powerful. One of their gigantic mega-projects is the continued construction of Berlin’s “Autobahn 100”. We believe that a multitude of different methods are needed, not just symbolic resistance. It’s pointless to appeal to the dominant political system, to its authorities and to democratic reason to prevent this concrete furrow in the middle of Berlin. Let’s turn our anger into courage and attack their profiteers, their managers and their construction vehicles. Through our ideas and our actions, we want to move closer, step by step, to a society where capitalism’s destruction of nature, its warlike and technological excesses, and the oppression of human by human, finally belong to the past.

Update: According to an article released at the beginning of January (Spiegel, 9/1), the sabotage against this gas pipeline was more extensive than the information originally released and translated below. The pipeline under construction was perforated in eight different places (not three), spread over a distance of more than a kilometer, causing damage estimated at at least 1.6 million euros. This new 55-kilometer pipeline is intended to connect the new liquefied natural gas terminal near Brunsbüttel to the German energy grid. According to investigators, the holes drilled in the steel gas pipe were barely visible from the outside, as the plastic coating covering them had contracted again after drilling. They were discovered at the end of November during a pipeline pressure test and reported to the police by the operator, Gasunie.

The Criminal Office of the Schleswig-Holstein region is investigating a possible attempt to sabotage the new liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline between Brunsbüttel and Hetlingen in northern Germany. Holes measuring around one centimeter in diameter were discovered in at least three places along the 55-kilometer route.
