The Conflict in Abya Yala and its Proximity to “Switch Off!”: Anarchic Words Concerning the Necessary Struggle for the Earth

Faced with devastation: sabotage and war! As the comrades who have raised and formed part of the campaign have understood it, “Switch Off! The system of destruction” consists of the “attack against companies and infrastructures that feed the ecological catastrophe across the world”. Here also, in Abya Yala (ancestral name for the territory known as America), multiple struggles for the defense of the earth have been developed, from the precolonial peoples who continue fighting, to new anarchic perspectives that tip more and more into the struggle for the earth. While we haven’t been able to stop the ecological catastrophe entirely, we can find concrete examples of territorial victories that have managed to stop, expel or at least considerably push back the materialization of extractivist projects, like the resistance and armed offensive of diverse mapuche organizations in Wallmapu.

The struggles in different latitudes aren’t detached form one another and they aim at the same enemies. This is why we believe it favorable to make the “Switch Off!” campaign our own, endowing it with our own territorial circumstances to avoid overlooking our particularities.

The “Good War” of Italian Immigrant Anarchists in the United States 1914-1920 (New Publication)

In the United States between 1914 and 1920, the greatest armed revolutionary offensive of the 20th century was unleashed against the governmental, judicial, industrial and financial institutions of the most important capitalist country on the planet. These direct actions weren’t the work of the militant factions of a political party or of a more or less radical mass movement, but of a handful of anarchists who had emigrated from Italy at the turn of the century. It was from this context that Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti came, sadly famous their execution on the electric chair in 1927.

The “Lafarge” Case: The Investigation Methods Used and Some Lessons to Be Learned

In this case, the Marseille Gendarmerie’s Research Section was reinforced by the SDAT (Anti-Terrorist Subdivision) […] under the vague notion of “extreme violence”. The means at their disposal are considerable — telephony, wiretapping, physical surveillance, spyware, facial recognition, GPS tracking, etc.

Chile: Words dedicated to Sebastián Oversuij Seguel – Pelao Angry

Words dedicated to Angry

When the proletarian youth from the neighborhoods of the city suburbs bow their heads and resign themselves to being cheap labor, they don’t call the attention of Power. They are handled with labor regulations (when the work is more or less formal), and/or are seen as the object of certain social policies that mix control with handouts.

When they dedicate themselves to petty economic delinquency to subsist, and become thiefs, shoplifters, low-level dealers or any other variant of the so-called “common criminal”, they are responded to with police, Penal Code and prison. When young people come from these same sectors, structurally marginalized by the capitalism of our time, they obtain certain class consciousness; when they rebel against exploitation with weapons in hand, they are always candidates for being labeled “terrorists”. Them! When they’ve done nothing but react with the most human dignity possible faced with systematic and historically accumulated conditions of class violence dolled out from above by the true terrorists.

Black Out. Controversy about meaning and efficiency of sabotage

Between February and March 2020, all over the world, heads of state made solemn and grave announcements in order to prepare
their populations for what appeared to be a new era : one of war against the virus. Within a couple months, the sabotage of telecomcommunication infrastructures had almost become a daily event in France, as well as in other European countries. Simultaneously, a debate sprang up within anarchist and radical ecological publications, in particular about the meaning and efficiency of these acts.

How could we undermine technological control ? Could we provoke a tipping point within this situation? What scenarios did these sabotages open up ? How could we consider efficiency, organization and ethics altogether?

Nowadays, the situation has evolved, but the problems brought up by the following texts remain unresolved, maybe even more
so now, and without obvious answers : what are the links between direct action and social or ecological movements? What strategies emerge when we separate or combine anarchist, ecologist and techno-critical perspectives?

How do these strategies integrate a now-decisive element :
the war in Europe, which will guide and harden the grip of states on
their populations.

Greece: For the revolutionary anarchist Alfredo Bonanno by Class Counterattack – Group of Anarchists and Communists, December 2023

For the revolutionary anarchist Alfredo Bonanno

On 6 dicembre the anarchist comrade Alfredo Bonanno died at the age of 86 years. Alfredo was an emblematic figure of the insurrectional tendency of the anarchist movement. His political activity extended to the whole range of militant practices of the movement and his writings have addressed a multitude of theoretical, historical and ideological issues, such as the question of insurrection and political organisation, revolutionary and armed struggle, the contemporary tendencies of capitalism, the relationship between nation and class, themes that he addressed with originality and acumen, which places him among the most important contemporary anarchist thinkers.

His revolutionary activities often caused him to be targeted by the repressive forces both in Italy and in Greece, where he has had close political contacts since the early 1990s participating in political events, international initiatives, solidarity movements and editorial projects. It would not be exaggerated to say that some of his works, such as Theory and Practice of insurrection  left a strong mark on the formation of the Greek anarchist movement of the nineties and two thousand.

Lecce , Italy : For Alfredo M. Bonanno

For Alfredo

It seemed impossible that this moment would come.  Speaking with Alfredo  has always given me the idea of the present, the moment to grasp.  I think many of us owe a lot to the reading of his texts and the long discussions that always left something new. The most crucial thing I learned was always to start from myself.

The large amount of writings and reflections and the huge number of anecdotes and experiences, will ensure that Alfredo remains among us, fortunately, to provide advice and suggestions, to open glimpses and passages but also to raise doubts, make efforts of reflection and imagination, build projects, maintain commitments, equip themselves with tools, destroy cages. Because as he himself said “this is about a method, the anarchist and insurrectional one, but basically it is an experience that we are talking about, not theories that clash or get along. An experience that continues over time and becomes action”. That experience for which at a certain point it is necessary “to close the book”.

Words in memory of Alfredo M. Bonanno by Biblioteca Antiautoritaria Sacco y Vanzetti

One death always makes us think of many more and it is the beautiful thing in the midst of sadness, our dead come out to dialogue, with us and with each other.

Bonnano did not share the relationship that many comrades on this earth have with those who have died.

Ironically today, his physical departure, makes us remember so many moments around his analysis, also the discussion with him in 2013, after his expulsion, the harshness of his phrases, but the beauty of the meeting, even in virtuality.
