In our call to the oppressed, the rebels, and the people of the struggle, to join our anarchist/anti-authoritarian rally bloc for November 17, we wrote: “The invocation of the democratic polity by the state and its supporters, under whatever guise, left or right, is a deception for those at the bottom. Authoritarian violence and the attempt to displace subversive social struggles and their rebellious characteristics from the public sphere and collective consciousness are means of terrorizing and silencing subversive ideas and freedoms. […] Free Polytechnics here and now for all, everything and everyone, outside the shackles of party manipulation and deception”. And as history has shown, it was as if we were foreshadowing with this address what would follow on the first day of this year’s three-day Polytechnic  “celebration”, with the repressive attack (and attempted displacement from the public historical space) on our assembled body in the courtyard of the National Technical University of Athens by the party army of ARAS (left anti-capitalist coalition).

TUESDAY DECEMBER 2nd, 9.00 am, EVERYONE TO THE ΑPPEAL COURT (EFETEIO) ATHENS

On the 2nd of December 2025, comrades will be on trial at the court of appeal for combatively defending the buildings of the Koukaki Squats Community in January 2020. The Koukaki Squats Community was created in 2017 and was formed by 3 abandonded houses (Matrozou 45, Panaitoliou 21, Arvali 3) which became livable through collective labour and served as housing squats and places of struggle for about 3 years. The doors of the houses were open to anyone who wished to fight back state violence and injustice, to anyone who was in need of shelter or the structures of social solidarity that operated in the community, to anyone who wished for a collective way of living and also to the people of the neighborhood.

Apart from the assemblies and the events that were hosted, in the squatted houses there was also a series of structures: the lending library, the public baths and washing machines and the free shop. The Community participated in struggles for the squatting and the antifascist movement, in solidairty with political prisoners, against gender violence, patriarchy, racism, the exploitation of nature, against gentrification and touristification of Koukaki, against the privatization of Filopapou hill and more. Within these three years the houses of the Community became the target of fascist attacks (3 arson attacks in Panaitoliou), they were evicted, with the police forces using all kinds of violence (beating, plastic bullets, sound grenades, chemicals) towards the squatters to throw them out of their houses and towards any other person that stood as an obstacle against the generalized state attack on squatted places. Dal febbraio 2019 al settembre 2021, Anarchistisces Wochenblatt Zündlumpen (Zündlumpen – Periodico anarchico) è stato pubblicato a Monaco, in origine settimanalmente e poi a intervalli di tempo sempre maggiori, ma anche con un numero di pagine sempre crescente. Non è mai stato chiaro se “Zündlumpen” fosse più un giornale da strada o un giornale per discussioni tra anarchici – includeva elementi di entrambi gli approcci, a seconda del numero, a volte verteva più in una direzione e altre volte nell’altra. I testi erano sia introduttivi che di approfondimento, vecchi e nuovi, traduzioni, analisi e commenti di eventi locali presenti così come di quelli provenienti da più lontano, comunicati, istruzioni, testi di discussione e polemiche come notizie da Monaco e dal mondo, dai monopattini elettrici incendiati in un parco a Monaco alle rivolte in prigione in Italia, insieme a foto di graffiti – il “Graffito della settimana” – erano ampiamente raccolti. Footage from the memorial march for the anarchist Kyriakos Xymitiris, who lost his life on October 31, 2024, after an explosion in an apartment on Arkadias Street in Ampelokipi, the moment of the generalized attack by the riot police with the aim of breaking up the march when it entered Benaki, and the crescendo of violence by the riot police in response, when an hour after the violent break-up of the march for Kyriakos Xymitiris, they surrounded Exarchia, ran into the pedestrian street of Messolongiou and Kolettis corner beating and arresting people sitting in the cafes and bars of the area, throwing firebombs feeling  the neighborhood with chemicals teargas…

Unsung: A hot week in Terrace (Canada)

Terrace Fire Department has been busy responding to two separate arsons targeting Kalum Cabs within five days of each other. Kalum Cabs is a taxi and shuttle company based in Terrace which operates in a few neighboring towns offering private and commercial shuttle services. According to a press release, early on the morning of the 24th police arrived hot on the heels of firefighters attempting to extinguish two of the companies shuttle busses which were found in flames.

The buses were reported to be severely damaged and photos published showed charred pavement from where they had been parked. Judging from the photos it seems the remains of the busses were oddly moved before the photo was taken. The wee hours of August 29th must have been another dreadful surprise for the forces of order who found themselves looking at another arson this time targeting Kalum’s taxi cabs. Police reported several cabs were targeted and one was seriously damaged.
