EDITORIAL

We have entered a condition in which the war rhetorics, actions and policies are proliferating and presented by the dominant groups as a ‘natural’ outcome – for some of its actors inevitable and for others legitimate – of the immediately preceding era, that of fear and imperilment. Now, the economic plunder, the strategies of customs tariffs and inflation, with all the techno-scientific controls at their side, are expressed in warlike terms.

Honour to the combative memory of Snizana Paraskevaidou (Greece)

On the 3rd of May 2025, at 5 am in the morning, Snizana Paraskevaidou lost her life because of the premature detonation of an explosive device she was placing outside a branch of the National Bank of Greece in Thessaloniki. The tragic death of this comrade lead to a widespread media terror-lust and so far, two arrests and the search of the cell of imprisoned anarchist comrade Fotis Tziotzis. We recognise and remember Snizana as a fighter and a heroine who died in battle, whose name and life is not forgotten.

(Thessaloniki,Greece) TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR INCENDIARY ATTACK AT A COP’S HOUSE

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR INCENDIARY ATTACK AT A COP’S HOUSE

The landscape is constantly changing. Global and domestic developments constantly bring us before the lens of war, filling us with fear and uncertainty. Redistribution of wealth, “neighboring” wars, inflation and so many other words that constantly pound our minds in daily news headlines. Nothing can remind us of the golden decades of yesterday while the future looks bleak. Greece, through its strategic geopolitical position, is not absent from the sphere of global developments. As a member country of N.A.T.O it serves its part for the great powers, while at the same time, trying to combat “domestic enemies”, it tightens its repressive measures.

In recent years, we have observed an extreme form of escalation of the arrogant violence of the state and its institutions. One political
scandal follows another, while the state-parastate connection is more evident than ever. The cost of political responsibility is an illusory dream of the past, as everything is unfolding before our eyes. Trafficking circuits, pedophile circuits, illicit construction deals,
natural disasters that reveal corruption in infrastructure projects,
privatization of state wealth, photographic laws for the persecution of activists and so much more that weave the web of a deep state, which is intertwined in all its individual parts and creates a mafia state.

(Thessaloniki,Greece) Attack against ATM ,dedicate the action to comrade Kyriakos Xymitiris by anarchists

In a situation where state repression is intensifying at all levels,
cops are everywhere checking compliance with the doctrine of “law and order”; cameras are popping up left and right in the context of both social control and the defense of property; public space is shrinking more and more; and the condition of general sterilization of our lives is established, it is our duty to attack with all our means, causing cracks in the sovereignty of the state.

As anarchists, we have not stopped pursuing – step by step – the fundamental destruction of the existent, through a multifaceted struggle. A struggle that starts from the smallest and ends in the largest, with Anarchy as its goal. A struggle, on the path of which, comrades have gone through torture and prison, while others have perished with its flame within them.

NO SQUATTER IN PRISON! Campaign for the court expenses of Koukaki Squats Community (Athens,Greece)

It was March 2017 when we first opened the door of 45 Matrozou str. and began repairing the building so that it could house our struggles, desires, needs and bodies. And when these, a few months later, could no longer fit in one building we opened two more buildings that were rotting abandoned in the neighborhood of Koukaki, 21 Panaitoliou str. and the Blue House (3 Arvali str.). This is how Koukaki Squats Community was created in the center of Athens.

From then until 2020, Koukaki Squats Community had been a political community that combined anarchist struggle with communal life. The doors of its houses were open for those who wished to fight back against state violence and injustice, for people who needed shelter or wished to use its public structures, for those who sought a collective way of life. It was also an open political and social space accessible to the inhabitants of one of the most gentrified neighborhoods in Athens. Τhe community participated in struggles of the squatting and anti-fascist movement, in solidarity with political prisoners, against gender violence, patriarchy, racism, exploitation of nature, against the gentrification of the neighborhood and the privatization of the nearby Philopappos Hill. In addition to political assemblies and events that were hosted, a number of public structures were operating in the houses, such as a lending library, public baths & laundries and a free clothing bazaar.

(Greece) FOR THE ATTACKS AT VOULIAGMENIS AVE. ON DAFNI AREA IN ATHENS

Small acts of revenge for the murdered people of our class.

Rich people don’t travel by train

Two years after the State – Capitalist Crime of Tempi, two days
after the February 28 uprising, we chose to attack some prominent
representatives of the dictatorship of the capital.

The branches of Elpedison and NRG, “alternative” providers of
electricity and accomplices in robbing the lower classes
through overpricing electricity, saw their storefronts shatter.

Athens, (Greece) : Claim Action by Provocateurs of the social peace : WE DO NOT FORGET-WE DO NOT FORGIVE THE STATE-CAPITALIST MURDER AT TEMPI

WE DO NOT FORGET-WE DO NOT FORGIVE
THE STATE-CAPITALIST MURDER AT TEMPI

Following the large rallies for Tempi that took place on 28/2 and the
riot outbreak, especially in Athens, in the early hours of Tuesday 4/3
we carried out a symbolic attack with colors at the branch of the
Ministry of Transport in Piraeus, at 5 AIGALEO Street, at the building of the Attica Regional Administration-Regional Administration of Piraeus and Islands.

The Ministry of Transport is the relevant state body responsible for the train collision in Tempi, as the ministry responsible for all
transportation infrastructure.

The issue of the state-capitalist murder of 57 people in Tempe and the injury of at least 87 others came to the fore again two years later, with the publication of expert findings, which refer to the presence of flammable (illegaly transported) materials on the train, which are related to the explosion that followed the collision of the two trains.

BALKAN ANARCHIST BOOKFAIR 2025, THESSALONIKI 15-18 MAY –  OPEN CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

On the 7th of July 2024, during the general assembly of the participants of the Balkan Anarchist Bookfair in Pristina, there was a proposal that the next BAB take place in Thessaloniki. The collectives and individuals from Thessaloniki who were present asked for ten days to think about it and respond. After a meeting of the Thessaloniki collectives that have worked together within the BAB framework and the Balkan Solidarity network, the answer was yes: The 17th Balkan Anarchist Bookfair will take place in Thessaloniki, from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 May 2025. It was also decided that the organizing assembly would be formed after a call to all collectives of Thessaloniki, but also to collectives from other cities (Athens, Ioannina) that have also worked together within the BAB and the Balkan Solidarity network.

The Balkan Anarchist Bookfair has never just been about books. We have always understood it as one more tool that strengthens our collectives, organizations, relations and networks on a local, a regional and an international level, as a space where we exchange our ideas and plans and also bring together our practices, organizing models and experiences of struggle, our participation in social movements. In September 2024, in a joint assembly held in Thessaloniki with all the collectives of the city that responded to the invitation to participate in the organizational assembly, we set the goal of bringing together the largest possible number of comrades from all over the Balkans in order to discuss, in an organized way, our agreements and disagreements and to make concrete proposals for common struggles and actions. We agreed to have as an initial agenda for BAB2025 the common topics discussed at the Ljubljana and Prishtina bookfairs (2023 and 2024) and started to set up the different working groups.

B(A)D NEWS 90 – Angry voices from around the world

Welcome to BAD News: Angry Voices From Around The World, a monthly English-language podcast by the international A-Radio Network #90 for April 2025! This month, we feature five segments:

  • First up, you’ll hear Črna Luknja from Radio Študent in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with an interview about the upcoming Balkan Anarchist Bookfair with organizers of the upcoming Balkan Anarchist Bookfair that will take place from May 15-18th, 2025 in Thessaloniki. More information, the call and the program for the bookfair can be found here: https://bab2025.espivblogs.net/
  • Next, Frequenz-A shares an interview recorded on April 13, 2025 with Eylem a transwoman and an activist from Istanbul about current protest, queer and feminist perspective, anarchist participation and needs of solidarity. The links on the media which Eylem is mentioning in the talk:
  • Then, Črna Luknja returns with an interview about Disgraça, an anarchist social center active in Lisbon since 2015. In March 2024, they started a process of collectively purchasing the space, as an effort to avoid paying (an always rising) rent, and secure it for the years to come. Lisbon has been devastated by real estate speculation, the housing crisis and the elitisation of culture. Various politically-engaged social centers in the city are facing evictions, seeing their contracts finishing, with no possibility to open new spaces…
  • Following this, A-Radio Berlin interviews a member of the Solidarity Fund for Imprisoned and Persecuted Revolutionaries, also known as Tameio, concerning solidarity and anti-repression work in Greece.
  • And finally, Parias of Athens shares an interview about the new case of political prisoner Nikos Romanos, represented by a person from the Nikos Romanos Solidarity Initiative.

We hope you enjoy this episode and check it out monthly by visiting A-Radio-Network.Org, where you can find other member shows, a back catalog of episodes and information about our network including how to join. Also, we have a mastodon account on Kolektiva.social where we occasionally post. Take care!

Thessaloniki, Greece: Solidarity with the survivor of the homotransphobic attack in Athens

Today 3/5 on the underground, at the Attiki station (green line) in Athens, a person was subjected to a homotransphobic attack by three fascists for simply existing as he is. They started with mockery, threw their cigarettes at him, then the stationmaster opened the train doors again, they came out and started beating him all together [on the platform].

Exarcheia under siege: Behind the Saturday’s Riot They Don’t Want You to Understand (Athens, Greece)

Exarcheia under siege: Behind the Saturday’s Riot They Don’t Want You to Understand

On the Saturday night of April 12th 2025, dozens of anarchists attacked with Molotov the scores of riot policemen that had encircled a live gig taking place in Strefi Hill of Exarcheia, in support of the people in Palestine. The public discussion that followed the fierce riot that unfolded and the threats made by members of the greek government to crush the anarchist movement in the neighbourhood, was about the events of that night, but purposely avoided addressing the reasons that led to that.

Exarcheia has always been a place under siege and attack. But in the last few years, the transformation of the neighborhood is taking place through systemic violence, with gentrification as a weapon. Once a cradle of radical thought and political resistance, the neighborhood is now the site of what many describe as an occupation. On any given day, Exarcheia Square—the area’s only communal open space—is hemmed in by riot police. Three corners of the square are guarded 24 hours a day, their presence a constant reminder of the state’s menace to the people in the area. Since August 9, 2022, when construction began on a new metro station beneath the square, this militarized posture has only deepened. The project has been met with uncompromising local opposition, not only over the destruction of the sole green space but for what it symbolizes: the state’s determination to remake Exarcheia in its own image. Under the right wing New Democracy government, Exarcheia has become a symbol of ideological confrontation. Every day the police march in regimented formations, changing shifts with military-like choreography.

Taking responsibility for freeing a horse by ALF – Anarchist Anti-Speciesist Direct Action Cell (City of Kabalas ,Greece)

On April 22nd, we freed a horse that was chained in a field in Nikisiani, Kavala. We led the horse away from the place where it was confined and left it on the mountain, hoping that it would gallop independently towards freedom.

While traveling through the countryside, we saw something we already knew. That many animals live confined behind barbed wire, in cages or tied up in the yards of houses and fields. From sheep, goats, cows, chickens, dogs, horses, donkeys, and even deer.

Greece: Nikos Palaiokostas “has passed away”

Nikos Palaiokostas passed away today 26/4/25, at the age of 65 in Trikala hospital where he had been admitted following a health problem he had been facing. He is the eldest brother of the family, and brother of Vasilis Palaiokostas, on the evening of the 6th of June, 2006, a  helicopter landed in the yard of the Korydallos prison in Piraeus, a few moments later, it took off, carrying  Vassilis Palaiokostas and Alket Rizai. On February 22, 2009, escaped for the second time from Koridallos prison, who is still being sought by the authorities.

In recent years, Nikos had been released on terms and conditions from the prison of Lamia. Incompatible, unrepentant, for many years in illegality, he was one with his brother as well as with Kostas Samaras. A true wild man of the mountains who never bowed his head.
