Tuesday 28th March 2023, in Thessaloniki, 500 people demonstrated in support of the social movement in France. The communiqué concerning the comrades of S., who is in coma following the repression in Saint-Solinia, was read in English and in Greek.

On our banner, the slogan was taken up which was used after the racist murder of the young Kostas Fragoulis, shot by the police last December: the blood flows, calling for an uprising!

In France as in Greece, the bourgeoisie uses violence as a defense mechanism. In order to face them, let us build our solidarity beyond their borders.

Athens,Greece: Solidarity Gathering Saturday 22/4, at Koridallos prison.

Since 28/10/22 the prisoners of the Greek hellholes have been sending their own message of resistance against the new toughened penal code by carrying out a Circle of escalating mobilizations.

Their demands include the return of prisons to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice, the abolition of C-type prisons, the right to 1/5 off the sentence for all (from 5/6) and 8 years for multi-lifers, the right to request a transfer to a rural detention centre for all without exception, to bring back the amendments to the article on educational leave, temporary leave to be made independently of the prisoner’s disciplinary record, and the immediate granting of leave to people with 67% or more disability, such as Savvas Xiros, who is being held vindictively and sadistically incarcerated, with a disability of 98%. This mobilization is essential resistance of the prisoners with the few means they have.

Open assembly to organize a response commensurate with the importance of the situation

The struggle waged by anarchist prisoner Alfredo Cospito against the 41bis prison regime and the life imprisonment without parole has reached its most dramatic point. Notwithstanding the opening of contradictions (opinion of the DNAA, opinion of the DDA of Turin, opinion of the PG at the Court of Cassation, order of the re-examination of the Sibilla Operation) every time an institutional organism with effective power to resolve the question opened by the comrade has met, the most manectarian and warmongering faction of the State has invested all its political power to crush any possible opening.

We have said it too many times: Alfredo’s death sentence is now an established fact, if the comrade is still alive we owe it solely to his extraordinary resistance. The decision to lock up an anarchist in 41 bis prison regime for the first time, taken by the previous Draghi government and Minister Marta Cartabia, as well as the determination to persevere in this criminal choice by the new right-wing government of Meloni and the current minister Carlo Nordio, count as an act of war. The tip of the iceberg of the “internal front” of a larger war, which on the international level is fought between NATO and the Russian Federation, and which is being expressed in our home with an unprecedented attack against social antagonism, against conflictual unionism and especially against action anarchism.

Athens, Greece: Taking responsibility for the attack on the central MAT riot cops’ den in Goudi area.

We take responsibility for the massive arson attack that took place at the central premises of the riot police in Goudi on Tuesday 28 March. Our action comes as a minimal response to the orgy of repression unleashed by the New Democracy government against the mass and militant protests against the state-capitalist crime in Tempe.

The government’s law and order doctrine is the other side of neoliberal policies, class inequality, poverty and privatisation. In the run-up to the election period, attacking the law and order doctrine, attacking the forces of repression, causing unrest targeting, among others, the pigs of the police, is a priority in order to defeat in practice this political doctrine that has left dead and wounded in its wake.

A DEMONSTRATION RALLY OF SOLIDARITY AND COUNTER-INFORMATION IN THE STATE NARRATIVE THAT WANTS OUR COMRADES BEHIND BARS

On 14/11/21 our comrades Fotis D. and Jason (Iasonas) R. did not stop at a checkpoint carried out by a DIAS team in the area of N. Faliro. Immediately afterwards a pursuit started against them by a vehicle without crossbars, which rammed them on the move risking fatal injury, then they were taken to the G.A.D.A central police headquarters in Athens . There, after compulsory fingerprinting and DNA sampling, they were charged with the attack on the Piraeus traffic police earlier that evening. With invalid evidence, namely, the spreading of false news, since they talked about a house-den and an explosives manufacturing plant, inaccurate statements of cops, which constantly fell into contradictions, it was decided to remand them in custody.

Nearly a year after the arrest of F.D. and I.R., with no trial date set and the case file still open, the investigator had room to implicate more people. On the morning of Tuesday 20/9/21 , State security cops, accompanied by a prosecutor, raided the house of comrades Panagiotis B. and Lambros B. After they were given a summons to appear for the case of the attack on the Piraeus Traffic Police, a house search was conducted, where personal belongings were seized. The comrades were arrested, detained at the GADA and subsequently released.

On 6/10/21, after interrogation in the Piraeus courts, they were remanded in custody once again on the pretext of criminalizing their comradeship and friendly relations with the already remanded for the same case, F.D. and I.R. Despite the many means at the disposal of the E.L.AS, (Greek police) having imprisonment and convictions as their aim, it resorts to the classic method of creating evidence. In particular, they choose to ‘identify’ (through video footage), simple and everyday clothing (for example, ‘cargo pants’). Our comrades are confronted with the following charges:

At dawn on Tuesday 8/2/22, two comrades were arrested following an operation by the “anti-terrorist police”. The reason was the burning of the “Foundation for National and Religious Reflection” in Thessaloniki. In the house where they were arrested, “incriminating” evidence was found which, in the context of the Terror Law, acquires a “felony” character. Later, another comrade was arrested. All three were remanded in Korydallos prison, prosecuted under the Terror Law (187a) for their participation in the organization “Anarchist Action”, the arson of the “Foundation for National and Religious Thought” and other actions.

Anarchist Thanos Chatzianggelou claimed responsibility for this arson and the findings in the house, and later on 10/3/22 he claimed political responsibility for his participation in the organization “Anarchist Action”.

The anarchist Gewrgia Voulgaris defended the choice to have a supporting role in carrying out the action. She remained in custody for 7 months and then the prison board decided to continue her detention under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.

P. Kalaitzis, whose only connection to the case is his relationship with the house and his companion, friendly and collegial relations with T.H. denied all charges and after 7 months of pre-trial detention he was released from prison with restrictive conditions, to sign every 1st and 15th of the month and a ban on leaving the country.

The following text is the political view of the Assembly in Solidarity with the four comrades in pre-trial detention Fotis D., Jason R., Lambros V. and Panagiotis V.

On November 14th, 2021 an unmarked police vehicle rammed into the comrades Fotis D. and Jason R. as they were in motion and then they were taken to the General Police Department of Attica. There, the uniformed garbage of the Greek Police proceeded to mandatory fingerprinting and DNA sampling, in order to link them to the attack on the Piraeus traffic police on the same night. In a process that took only half a day, they raided their homes, making sure to plant incriminating evidence, thus building a weak case against them. At the same time, the media indulged in their usual vile role, talking about homes being bomb and explosives manufacturing facilities, in an attempt to normalise the new criminal code in the public mind (which upgrades the possession and use of Molotov cocktails to a felony). It is worth noting, that the code came into force the day before their arrest. For the millionth time, the fabrication of guilty people by the media, has socially reinforced the prosecution’s argument and created the appropriate ground for the pre-trial detention of our two comrades, who have been held captive for 15 months in the Korydallos and Avlona hellholes.

With the trial date not being set and the case file still open, the interrogator had room to implicate more people. Following a prosecution conducted by the interrogator, on Tuesday morning 20/9, state cops accompanied by a prosecutor, stormed into the house of comrades Panagiotis V. and Lambros V. The comrades were arrested and detained in GADA, where for several hours the reasons for their detention were not known and they were not given the right to communicate with their lawyers or their close ones. The next day, they were tried by the Single-Member Plenary Court in Evelpidon for violation of the weapons law and were later released.

Athens: CLAIMING RESPONSIBILITY IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE HUNGER STRIKER ALFREDO COSPITO

In 2014 the anarchist Alfredo Cospito was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison because at his trial for shooting the manager of a nuclear plant in the legs he did not make any statements of repentance, but instead defended his action, an action “against the doctrine of technology” according to his words. In 2016 and already in custody, he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, accused of a bomb attack on a carabinieri school in Fossano in 2006.Since 5 May 2022 he has been in solitary confinement (41bis) as part of changes to the Italian penitentiary code.

This regime imposes a reduction of the prisoners’ exercise period to one hour a day and visits with relatives to one hour a month, as well as restrictions on correspondence and reading material. In these ways it forces the prisoners into complete social isolation. Similarly, with the re-establishment of C-type prisons, the amendments to 187 and 187A, the increase of the minimum sentence to 4/5 from 3/5, the frequent DNA-based prosecutions and other amendments to the Sofronist code, it is clear that the treatment of the comrade Cospito is not so far from the standards of the Greek State. Besides, the cooperation between the two States is complemented by their economic support for each other. Of course, despite the apparent differences between them (with the image of the Greek State as more progressive and the Italian State as more conservative), it is obvious that the counter-revolutionary policy is the same regardless of the regime and government.

Precision pricing is one of the most recent manifestations of class violence unleashed by the State and the bosses on those below. The already unaffordable prices of basic goods for some have been inflated through location, resulting in privilege for the haves over the have-nots. With capital striding on the backs of the social base, further impoverishing it, and the State being the institutional guardian of capitalist restructuring and repression, taking our lives into our own hands is the only solution. We will not divide our needs into basic and non-basic, we will not step back on what belongs to us, we will fight side by side until the final elimination of the State and classes.

In the context of the ongoing mobilizations against precision pricing, revaluations and the overall devaluation of our lives, on Saturday 4/2 an intervention was held by about 25 comrades in My Market in the area of Gravas in Patisia. Various kinds of products were expropriated and after the end of the intervention they were distributed to the people who were in the street market near the supermarket.

In a prolonged period of ongoing crises, impoverishment and general class devaluation, the re-emergence of fascists in the public sphere is a reality that we have to face once again. After a brief ‘withdrawal’ from the public sphere as a result of hard-fought battles by the multiform anti-fascist movement and the subsequent State rollback (see the trial of golden down neo-nazis), various far-right and fascist groups are attempting to regroup, to declare their presence on city walls and in the neighbourhoods and take to the streets. A movement that is culminating as we approach the elections. In fact, the recent event of the stabbing of an antifascist comrade after an anti-fascist march in Kallithea, shows an upsurge in their activity that must be relentlessly crushed in its infancy.

The new “Greeks” party of Kasidiaris, number 2 in the hierarchy of the old HA, having rallied a potential that ranges from far-right cadres, adventurers and careerists, to the “traditional” Nazis – remnants of the weakened mother-organization, is attempting to imprint the far right-nationalist swamp electorally and claim its entry into the Parliament, with all that this implies. On the other hand, the government of New Democracy, for electoral reasons, to cut off the leakage to the right and to “cleanse” itself of its own far-right policies and cadres, is choosing to pass a law to block the entry of Kasidiaris’ party in the upcoming elections.

We take responsibility for the incendiary attack on the house of retired cop Fotis Theodoros in Kaisariani Aarea, at 5 Manoliassas Street. We were very pleased to learn in the days that followed that a second retired cop lived in the same building.

The reason for this attack was the State murder of Kostas Fragoulis by the uniformed garbage of the DIAS cops team. Once again, the agents of the State apparatus murder in cold blood, but this time, as last year with Nikos Sabanis, race became the main issue in the political and social arena. As anarchists we do not need to analyse our position, it is clear. But we ought to recall that this is not a random incident but a manifestation of the wider war that is being waged doggedly by the State and capitalism against the oppressed of this world and especially against those who dare to question their sovereignty. We are taking a stand in this war and declare that we will walk through your homes and over your dead bodies.

The only enemy is the state and capitalism

On Thursday 16 February, a solidarity meeting was held with the anarchist hunger striker from 20/10 against 41-bis and perpetual life imprisonment, Alfredo Cospito, as a signal of internationalist solidarity from Athens. The rally crossed the sidewalk of the Italian embassy, although the cops told us to stay on the opposite sidewalk. We then left in an assembled fashion and opened banners at Syntagma, opposite the parliament, before leaving.

On the same day (February 16), while the struggle against the Penal Code in Greek prisons continues, anarchists and militant prisoners started a collective hunger strike with whatever strength each one has individually, to stand mentally by the side of the anarchist Alfredo Cospito and against the regime-grave of 41-bis (G. Michailidis, Th. Hatzianggelou, I. Rodopoulos, L. Vougiouklakis, P. Vougiouklakis, F. Daskalas, S. Nikolouzos and S. Kalaitzidis went on one day of hunger strike, and D. Hatzivassiliadis and K. Dimalexis went on three days of hunger strike).
