We call for a protest gathering against the murders of migrants on Sunday 28/8 at 19.30 at the train station of Piraeus
During the tourist season, there have been at least 3 allegations of premeditated murders of migrants by the Greek state.
After several days of torture, the 39 refugees managed to free themselves from the islet in Evros and are now threatened with deportation. At the same time, 5-year-old Maria isn’t with them. Her death is yet another death at the Greek border, adding to the hundreds of deaths that preceded it.
On 10/8, a dead refugee was washed up on a beach 16 km from Chios. Shortly afterwards, two more dead bodies were found floating in the sea. Two of the three refugees had been handcuffed before being thrown into the sea.
In the same week, 39 kilometres to the south of Rhodes, a boat carrying almost 80 migrants sank. Of the wreck, 29 were found while almost 50 more are missing. The possibilities seem to point towards the drowning scenario.
At the time of writing, 11 Somalis have been trapped for three days on a mountain in Chios. According to Aegean Boat Report, they don’t have much time left as food and water is running out. Despite constant appeals for help, the Greek state refuses to rescue them.
For all the above crimes, as for all the other murders of migrants that occur almost daily on the Greek border and in the mainland, the Greek state has absolute (even if not exclusive) responsibility. This is the human cost of “national security”, of the “secure borders policy”, of the daily killings by the Greek coast guard.
This contradiction, with tourism on the one hand and murders on the other, cannot be kept hidden any longer!! We must raise our voices here and now! To fight against the murderous handling of the “refugee issue”! Against racist discrimination, concentration camps and the persistent crime that is the border! With common struggles of migrants and locals we’ll put an end to this barbarity!
We call all of you to gather on Sunday 28/8 at 7:30pm at the exit of the train station in Piraeus. Our aim is to head towards the Port.
