Unknown individuals have set fire to the mailbox on New Year’s Eve at the house used by the fraternity Germania in Wolfsangerstraße. A resident had alerted the fire department at around 9:25 p.m. because of the burning mailbox, police spokeswoman Ulrike Schaake reports.
Despite the quickly initiated extinguishing work, the mailbox was completely destroyed. In addition, the facade was affected by soot. The damage is estimated at 1000 euro.
The perpetrators would have set fire to the mailbox by throwing in an unknown burning object, possibly a firecracker.
Due to the possible political motive of the damage, the officials of the national protection will now investigate this case.
There have been several paint attacks on the student union in the past. Unknown people had thrown paint bags against the house as recently as the end of November 2021. In addition, there had been a paint attack on the house in November 2020. At that time, there was a letter of responsibility on the left-wing website Indymedia.org.
Holocaust deniers have spoken at the Kassel fraternity on several occasions.
