On December 6, the anniversary of the murder of 15-year-old anarchist Alexis Grigoropoulos, killed by a cop with two bullets in the back in 2008, there were numerous initiatives of struggle.
In the morning, a group of students opened the day; as night fell, a demonstration of thousands of people marched through the center of Athens.
The demonstration left at 18:00 from Propylaiea chanting slogans and heading towards the parliament and from there most of the demonstrators, the most prominent ones, went to Exarcheia, where at 21:00 there was a gathering at the memorial where Alexis was assassinated.
Barricades were set on fire to prevent police entry and several clashes took place on several streets. At night, the police started a pursuit. There were four arrests and injuries. The discovery that Greek police are using tear gas that has been expired for more than 20 years caused an outcry. The shells fired in Exarcheia had an expiration date of 1999. In a video, a group of officers on motorcycles, the Delta squad, can be seen breaking the window of a building to arrest two comrades.
In Thessaloniki, at the end of the demonstration, there were clashes and Molotov cocktails thrown at the police.
After the heavy stiffening of penalties for those using explosive bottles, this seems to be a sign that repeated attempts to sow fear in the movements are not taking root.
