Bus depot ransacked in Nîmes
France bleu Gard Lozère/Midi Libre, 18 October 2021
This Monday morning, several lines of the Tango network, the public transport network of Nîmes, were out of service.
The ransacking of eleven buses took place in the storage depot of a subcontractor of Nîmes Métropole public transport located in Mas de Cheylon. “It is an act of vandalism. Windows have been broken and seats slashed. The eleven vehicles are inoperative. Eight coaches are involved,” explains Ludovic Martin, general manager of Tango-Transdev.
In total, twenty-seven windows of all eleven of them were vandalised. The events took place over the weekend, between Saturday evening, very late, when the last vehicle entered the depot, and this Monday, at 5.30am, when an agent went on duty and discovered the damage. This Monday, these buses (on lines 52, 71, 72, 104, 203A, 210, 220 A and 228) should have mainly transported Nîmes secondary school students, about five hundred, from Vaunage, Redessan, Rodilhan, Manduel, Saint-Gilles or even Poulx, but also people going to their place of work. Traffic was severely disrupted.
The damage is estimated at 50,000 euros, to be paid by the operator. The insurance companies no longer cover glass breakage.
