Mapuche Political Prisoners of Lebu, Angol, and Temuco in Solidarity with Temucuicui and Pilmaiken Against Escalated Government Repression

March 7, 2023

Mapuche political prisoners of the Lebu, Angol, and Temuco prisons issue communiques demonstrating their solidarity and concern faced with the events that represent escalated repression against communities in resistence by the current government.

They also mention the three Mapuche political prisoners in the Angol prison – Palacios Cañuta, Simón Huenchullan Millanao and Jorge Palacios Cañuta, who have been on hunger strike since February 27 for their transfer to CET (Study and Work Center) in Victoria. From Lebu they say they are alert to this situation and do not rule out the possibility of mobilizations.

At the same time they call for the communities in resistence and Mapuche autonomist movement to strengthen themselves in the face of what is a clear persecution on the part of the current social democratic government and in conjunction with sectors of the ultra-right and those which are historically anti-Mapuche. The repressive policies are deepening in order to ensure extractive capitalist investments in Wallmapu (the great Mapuche territory).

Public Declaration of Mapuche Political Prisoners of Lebu Prison:

To our Mapuche Pueblo Nation, to the Lov and communities in resistence, to the various support networks in the cities, to the chilean people, the mapuche political prisoners in Lebu prison state the following:

As mapuche political prisoners we watch with indignation how a government which boasts being different and progressive deepens the repressive policies against our pueblo.

Today the mapuche political prisoners in Angol prison are on hunger strike demanding that the state comply with the agreement signed between then regional director of the Gendarmería in La Araucanía and the former Minister of Justice, Marcela Ríos, so that the provisions of the OIT Convention 169 are respected. As mapuche political prisoners of Lebu prison we are in solidarity with the 3 brothers who are on hunger strike in Angol and we demand that Convention 169 be respected once and for all.

Faced with this situation as PPM (mapuche political prisoners) Lavkenche we declare ourselves in a state of alert and do not rule out the possibility of mobilization in support of the above demands. We also send our fraternal greetings and our full support to the peñi/lamuen of Pilmaiken and Temucuicui after the latest acts of robbery and repression by the military police who are taking over the entire Wallmapu.

First they stole our territory and now they plunder our food, making it clear that the Boric government has no real interest in trying to resolve the territorial conflict, but rather is determined to intensify the colonial and repressive policies against the mapuche autonomist movement, creating conditions for extractive companies to continue plundering our territory.

Finally we call on all the communities that are in the daily struggle against the state to strengthen the weichan and prepare to defend what has been reclaimed, given that everything indicates that the Boric government has given its full political backing to the usurpers and their guard dogs, police and military, who are stalking our territory.

Down with the plantations!

Loggers, military and yanakonas* out of Wallmapu!

Norwegian dams out of Pilmaiken!

Respect Convention 169 and freedom for all PPM.

Territory and autonomy.
