Zaventem, Belgium: the offices of the technology company Devoteam in ashes

In an office building in the Belgicastraat in Zaventem [Flemish Brabant], the third floor was heavily damaged by a fire on Tuesday evening. A guard noticed the fire and alerted the emergency services. There were no casualties. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the fire was started at the technology company Devoteam.
On Wednesday morning the public prosecutor’s office in Halle-Vilvoorde sent a fire expert to the Keiberg industrial estate to find out the exact circumstances. After a visit to the site, the appointed fire expert came to the conclusion that there was evidence of malicious intent, i.e. that the fire had been deliberately set.  As a result of the fire, the third floor of the office building was sealed off.

Devoteam is a company with 500 employees in Belgium [international leader in digital strategy consulting, technology platforms and cyber security, including cloud, automation and data processing]. CEO Benny Moonen is surprised that the arsonists have targeted his company: “This fire is causing us a lot of trouble. We will now have to look for new offices in the area. We don’t know yet whether it will be temporary or permanent. In this building we occupied the second and third floors. The second floor suffered smoke and water damage, but the third floor was completely destroyed.
