A D.IAS team killed an 18 year old Roma youth and seriously injured another. The police chased a vehicle that failed to stop when signaled. The chase, which started from the Renti area, continued to Perama where the police did not hesitate to start shooting at the people in the car, who were unarmed, firing 38 bullets with 7 service weapons in a residential area. Inside the car, the 18-year-old was killed, the 16-year-old was wounded and evacuated, and the 15-year-old escaped.

The media response, once again, backs up the version of events given by the police, strategically presenting a scenario of car theft, suspicious Romani and police injuries, justifying police brutality in defense of legality and civic order while stigmatizing and further violating the Roma community.

The constant flow of evidence obtained from eyewitness information, videos and audio recordings, such as the number of bullets, the chase and the false statement issued by the police presenting 7 wounded D.IAS policemen; falsehood used as a headline by several media outlets. Later a video was published where they are heard informing the police station that no one has been injured, while they remain standing next to the lifeless body of the young man. Also, recordings of the transmissions from the police station order the D.IAS to stop the chase. They reveal the reality that the regime’s media, together with the State and the judiciary are trying to manipulate and falsify.

The current government’s doctrine of “public order” once again reveals its true face. The streets, neighbourhoods and cities are increasingly filled with police that, with total impunity, defend a classist, sexist, capitalist and racist regime, repressing and imposing their hegemonic truths with their figure of authority, control and security, shielding themselves with the weapons that make them strong and murderous.

This murder is not an isolated case. It is part of a network of violence and supremacy exercised by the police and the State against people and communities that challenge the regime and the moral and civic norm with their existence.
